As promised.............

After not even several seconds of work, less than scientific research and absolutely no testing on the general public the Tony Hancock
"Are You a Self or Business Funded Flyer?" quiz is finally complete. (Ten key questions with multiple choice answers.)

Please answer all questions truthfully or just lie if you like. If an answer does not match exactly your own response just make something up that matches near enough. :p

The purpose of the quiz is to establish whether you are self or business funded or somewhere in between.

When you have completed the quiz add up your score and see whether you are self or business funded by reading the post defining the score.

Please, please, please, please don’t bother commenting about questions that should or shouldn’t be there or how the scoring should have been done etc. Just make your own quiz up instead!! :p

Warning: Do not proceed with this quiz if you have humourless tendencies, have no appreciation for Galton & Simpson, Croft & Perry or Ian Le Frenais & Dick Clement, do not appreciate attempts at schoolboy humour, are offended by long words, dislike Monty Python, the Crazy Gang, Arthur Askey, and Sid Field, possess no self awareness, take yourself and your hobbies even a teensy weensy bit seriously, believe this will be a serious study, have feelings of self loathing, loathe Tony Hancock , believe sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, enjoy reality TV, have a chip on your shoulder the size of a redwood tree, mix coca cola with single malt whisky, are politically correct or enjoy trolling. :p Please just assume there is a sticky out tongue at the end of each line.

1. You need to pop over to Auckland rather urgently, you

a) Check multiple online sources for the best deal in economy, re-count the number of points in your frequent flyer account balance and then book a flight in First Class using points to minimise cost and maximise your travel pleasure. (1 Point)

b) Login to your FF account and book a mixed saver/flexible economy return flight with your preferred airline to ensure you can get home to your family earlier if possible. (7 Points)

c) Contact the corporate travel agent and have them book a First Class around the world fare at $29,000. (10 Points)

2. You need to book a hotel for your destination, you

a) Use online resources to check for the best deals, you opt for Hilton, then organise a status match to your Best Western silver card with Hilton to maximise the benefits available during your stay. (1 Point)

b) Log into your Hilton and IHG accounts and weigh up pricing and the options that status will give. IHG is $10 cheaper but with Hilton you get a free breakfast and a couple of free drinks at the bar. You opt for Hilton (7 Points)

c) Have your corporate travel agent book all of the rooms in the Grand Hyatt to ensure that you won’t be disturbed on your stay. (10 Points)

3. A double status credit offer drops into your mailbox, you

a) Jump online immediately to assess inexpensive status run options, that shiny Iridium card is within your grasp. (1 Point)

b) Ignore it, you already have travel booked in advance and there is no status to be earned above your current status anyway. (7 Points)

c) Have your corporate TA book an additional around the world in F, after all it is all about earning the status credits isn’t it and it is not your money. (10 Points)

4. It is long haul to Asia time again and you can’t face another economy flight there, you

a) Find a site online that specialises in finding cheap airfares and book business class on Air Koryo, what could possibly go wrong. You dream of the lie flat bed and champagne. (1 Point)

b) Use points to book a reward seat. Pricing at your preferred carrier is too high and you are conscious that your schedule may change. (Fortunately the Redemption you earned through your status will ensure availability when you need it. (7 Points)

c) Contact the corporate travel agent and have them book a First Class around the world fare at $31,000. After all it isn’t your money. (10 Points)

5. It is status run day you will be flying from BNE-MEL-PER-KGI-PER-KGI-PER-MEL-BNE at the end of the trip you

a) Look back on a tough but enjoyable time and take great satisfaction in achieving your status goal. (1Point)

b) Thank the God of travel that that is over but it was necessary to get your next trip to Europe for $1300. (5 Points)

c) Wonder what a status run is. (10 Points)

6. Your shiny new card arrives in the post, you

a) Stick it to your Boeing Polo shirt so that every one can see it, and have Self Funded embroidered below it. (1 Point)

b) Pop it in your wallet ready for that tricky time at the MH Lounge at LHR when the lounge dragon won’t let you in without a physical card….again! (5 Points)

c) Wonder why the airline won’t anoint you “President’s Sitting Room” status, man alive you spend enough with them. (1 Point) (Yes that really is one point and not a typo.)

7. Things go awry with your flight to Asia, you

a) Rather wished you hadn’t booked with Air Koryo on the recommendation of an online service as the booking terms and conditions, the ones you now wish you had read, are so restrictive that you find that your children must be given up for a life in servitude in North Korea. A valuable lesson learned. (1 Point)

b) Call the premium line of your airline to find that you have been rebooked on another airline and will actually arrive earlier. (5 Points)

c) Have your PA call the corporate TA to organise a private jet…after all it is not your money. (10 Points)

8. You land at LHR after 27 hours of travel, you

a) Post pictures of the self funded business class seat and food to Facemathingy extolling the joys of air travel. (1 Point)

b) Count the days left to the return journey and hope that you don’t have to sit next to the person using the flash on their phone to take photographs of the seat and food whilst you were trying to sleep (7 Points)

c) Wonder why your corporate travel agent had only organised a Jaguar XE to whisk you away to your five star hotel. (10 Points)

9. Time for a holiday without the kids, the ones in North Korea if you answered a to question 4, you

a) Set a budget, select a destination, and then work out the best flights maximising time spent in the highly rated premium cabins. (1 Point)

b) Despair at having to get on a plane again this year but take some solace that it is at least not for work. (7 Points)

c) Organize the corporate jet to whisk you away to the corporate pacific island, it is the company’s money who cares. (10 Points)

10. A post on your second favourite online travel forum asks how many flights members take, you

a) Respond by saying that your travel is self funded but forget to list the number of flights. (1 Point)

b) List the number of flights remembering to remove any business paid for flights because they don’t count (7 Points)

c) What is an online travel forum? (10 Points)

10 Points – you are the ultimate self funded traveller. You love air travel and everything that it entails and take incredible pride in being able to achieve airline and hotel status off your own back using guile and initiative, or you are very wealthy and quite tight with your money. Either way you both despise and envy, in equal measures, anyone who scores more than 61 and above in this quiz. You are not keen on those scoring 31-60 either – they have it all – business class travel, nice hotels etc and they don’t have to pay for it. At least you will have more money to spend on travel now that the children are in North Korea.

11-30 – you too are a self-funded traveller but perhaps mix the leisure travel with a little business travel. You take a more balanced view of the two but still call yourself self funded. You secretly envy anyone scoring 61 and above in this quiz but publicly you will criticise their behaviour. You appreciate your leisure trips and business trips alike.

31-60 – you are the business traveller trying to come to terms with a modern post financial crisis world where you really do have to look after the pennies and do the right thing by your business. You travel a lot and it is for work so you don’t quite understand the people who score 10 in this quiz. Travel is a chore for you. You also secretly envy those who score 61 and above in this quiz they are living the dream, but of course you criticise their excesses in public.

61-91 – you are the elite corporate traveller. The financial crisis passed you by and when you need to get somewhere you do it in style at someone else’s expense. You are envied by all others because of the way you travel. Those scoring 10 also despise you but you don’t care because you don’t actually realise that the people scoring 10 in this quiz exist. In fact you probably haven’t actually taken this quiz because you have no idea this forum exists.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Scored 32 (group 3) but would classify myself as group 2, and will forever envy the group 4's

Flicked this survey to my corporate TA - will know a score when they let me know....

I was enticed by the promised Monty Pythonesque humour......? Still waiting Tony?

I only ask, what did the Romans(please insert airline of your choice here instead of Romans) ever do for us?

I got tired of reading after question 2, so instead, I booked an argument. I even won after saying Romans , circa AD 50, are not a distinct racial group.

So, in the final analysis, it all depends if what side of the street you live on. Tomato or tomato?

Well I couldn't answer any question with a yes.
Presumably means I scored zero.
Working out what that means.

Does mrs.drron know you are doing online quizzes again?

0 - you are probably a semi retired doctor with a love of cruises and dodgy shorts who regularly posts in an online travel forum and baits the ever innocent Tony Hancock.

:p
