The Qantas Status Run Master Thread

Quite happy to see the $299 J fares are to OOL, BNE and CFS for the current Red-E sale, MEL is $329 not as good as the $299 last time but still decent.

Had been waiting for a good price to to book a SYD-BNE trip to go and see the Jim Henson exhibit and visit some friends so did so this morning as unlikely to ever be cheaper than $299 in J on the weekends I could go.

$7.47 per SC but if you used a movie voucher as I did then $3.73 per SC which is about as good as it gets for domestic J.

All these price drops are good, but when they are also cancelling flights, that is one downside.
Ie, if you had booked it, and take annual leave/long service leave, and got someone to look after the kids, if the other half works, and they then/then they cancel flights.
Havent booked, but using the cut of the ADL > MGB Qlk flight as an eg, that would have been a good one to use, to then road it to Warrnambool, then cheap vline to MEL.

Paid thousands, or $1500 and now QF have changed all my flights to a 737, they have also put me into row 4, so I loose the business seats.
If I had a link to QF, I would have put my complete displeasure at being put into Y, when I paid for J, that is how QF now treats their pax.
Who ever decided this, swapping the 330 to a 737 on flights into and out of PER/MEL and vv, wow, not a happy pooch.
Cant use swear words or get banned on here, and not like that there is a QF person here anymore.
That VH is very shrewd.

I understand why you are rightly upset @AustraliaPoochie

Noting that if an aircraft swap means you have been downgraded you should be able to:
  • Request to be moved to a earlier/later flight which still has J availability.
  • If that doesn't suit you, and you choose to fly in whY you should be eligible for a refund of 75% of the ticket price and the original routing status credits.
  • Alternatively they should be able to cancel flight give a full refund to allow you to book with someone else.
As 737 are the most common aircraft used on capital city runs, often safer to book these flights because if an aircraft swap happens can only be to one with more J not less. Whereas an A330 has double the number of J seats so some passengers will have to be displaced if aircraft swap happens.

Were you provided with a number to call? I do not believe you have to automatically accept the downgrade you should have options per above.

Does anyone know how that would work with DSC runs? Would you get the 75% refund and then double the original J status credits?

Yes. We received DSCs at PE rates after a downgrade from PE to whY.

Have you already attained Green Tier? If not and you're close, that can earn you 50SC. If you're nowhere near that, then probably a one-way Business ticket from SYD to OOL/BNE/MEL (which will net you 40SC). If you can exploit a Double Status Credit booking, then a return Economy SYD to OOL/MEL/BNE (or similar) would net you 40SC.

Cheapest Business fare out of Sydney in May on Qantas (which will get you the 40SC you need) is to Coffs Harbour for ~$413: 1777772705628.png

You could then use points to get back, or just buy a cash fare.

Alternatively, you could fly a RT in Economy from SYD to somewhere like HBA or LST via MEL for about $550, which will also get you the 40SC, although you must have a stop in each direction.

Green tier is probably the least effort though

Thanks Wilson ! That's another option I will keep in mind

Just saw syd-mel-adel, near end of month for $370 for 20 SC, I may just do that and return for the 40 SC.

Book now, fly soon, will be expensive, esp for an airline like QF.
Hope they dont swap your 737 to a Dash8, for which, then you have to claim ORC if you had book J, and they put in a Dash 8 with no J cabin.
Will have to stump up for a J sector somewhere, this close to end of the month.
===
For a guaranteed 40 SC, would have to be SYD -> MEL (subclass of J) in one straight go, and then Firefly or XPT back, or JQd back.
Flex Y, SYD -> CBR -> MEL -> CBR -> SYD, if you dont mind flying the Dash 8.
They very rarely do put the Dash 8 on the SYD -> MEL flights, ...
Trouble tho, is that they are cutting some flights to cut their fuel cost, so if you are unlucky, your flight might be the one they cancel.
They have cancelled Dash 8 from ADL -> MGB, ...
