The Qantas Singapore Lounge

Ah, I was there that day. I really should pay more attention to these things.

fwiw, i enjoyed the fatty beef stew thing in the buffet, the assortment of vegetables and the creme brulee (I had three ). Think I'll use the shower products I'll souvenir from the hotel next time rather than the stuff in the pump bottle.

Ha, so was I! Bumped into brettmcg but didn't realise there were so many others there!

Earlier this week I spent about 5 hours enjoying the great food, wine & coughtails in the new Singapore lounge and was very impressed. Compliments to the whole lounge team! For those interested I have just posted an extensive review with lots of photo's here:

Thanks Red Roo - it was a fun day out! Am heading to Asia for a proper holiday in November so am looking forward to visiting again then :)

Final part of the review is now up too!

Had an excellent experience in the SG lounge on Tuesday. It's more like a Business+ lounge. Definitely best J lounge I have been to.

Food was great and the staff are very good.

Well done QF.

Was in Singers Lounge last Friday for around 3 hours. Honestly didn't excite me that much and I spent my time in what I would call the 'traditional' area of the lounge with the comfy seating.

Lounge was fairly busy after QF5 arrival and I just wanted a quiet area rather than being in amongst everyone.

So the lounge works for me and will work for others for other reasons but not worth all the hype IMHO.

In the lounge again. Same waiter- Red Roo, this guy is great and it should be made known to management.
Can't read his name tag though...

White coat, here now, short hair, Asian...

Not sure if he is the head waiter.

Anyway, he is really on the ball, friendly, helpful. Overheard other tables say how good he is too.

I'd ask his name, but I have a pathological fear of that. Last time I asked for a manager I think they thought I was going to complain.

Edit: maybe he just went on break or off shift at about 1700. New guy wearing a white coat around.

If he is an older man, maybe 50 or 60 then he is great. I had a spare $20 of SGD that I couldn't use so gave it to him as a tip. He wouldn't accept it as he said it was his job but I made him take it - he was that good!

what are the chances of getting into the EK singapore lounge for a pre QF lounge drink with my wife and 3 year old kid as a as as guests?

Also my kid loves to watch aircraft taxiing and taking off/landing. EK lounge is good for that.

Flight is on QF, I am WP and wife is QC-PS, kid is PS.

Should not be an issue.

Glad to hear of your great service experience! I've passed these comments on to the lounge manager for their reference. They'll easily be able to identify him for internal recognition. :)

His name is Eric. He remembers me every time!!!

Cheers! That's exactly the kind of service we like to promote. I'll pass on your comments, and if it's not the same person, we'll ensure Eric is recognised too. :)

I transited through the lounge on my way to/from Helsinki recently and I have to say I'm very impressed with the new lounge. Great food selection, no shower queues (For me anyway), Erdinger weissbier on tap! However, the most standout thing for me was the quantity and quality of staff. Most lounges overseas you'll see the dragon at the door and max of one other just clearing plates. It's great to have basically table service throughout the lounge with personable staff happy to stop and have a chat. Ali and Chuck at the bar on both transits were excellent.

The little things such as coughtails, barista made coffee, good selection of beers and made-to-order food make all the difference too.

Only very minor downer was one group of rowdy guys (Which sure, you can get in any lounge). Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a drink and laugh but perhaps the staff could have been a little quicker to respond to these guys before particularly their language offended a couple of families traveling with young kids.

A big thumbs up from me overall.

Hi all - long time reader but today I've decided to join the ranks with a post!

I agree - new lounge is fantastic and the service staff are, for the most part, particularly excellent and helpful. They seem to work well as a team and they're very proactive and on the ball. The older Asian guy in the white coat was in the lounge on Sunday as well and I also thought he did a great job, as did the older Chinese lady in the dining area who cleared my plates and then very nicely brought me another can of Coke as she saw my glass was empty.

After four visits, however, I have a really big issue with the place: the crowd. I fly frequently from Perth so I'm very familiar with the rough mining crowd, but the Singapore lounge seems to be something else. Everywhere I looked I was surrounded by abusive loudmouths intent on downing as many drinks as they cold before getting onboard. I'm not one to complain if they're relatively polite and keep to themselves, but this crew seems to be highly abusive to the staff in their quest to drink the bar dry, all without a thought for anyone else in the lounge. While I lament the passing of the First Lounge, I just wonder what can be done to make it slightly more civilised?

just another example of adults (i use that term very loosely) not taking PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS (situational awareness) in Lounges etc   ...passengers are their own worst enemies...

Thanks for sharing your experiences from both lounges. I've passed on your comments, including the new coughtail suggestion. Hope to welcome you back to the SIN lounge again soon. :)

Red Roo, you have made me a very happy passenger. I just went through the SIN lounge and asked the waiter for a Singapore Sling, and he promptly brought one for me.

I think it is amazing that Qantas are willing to listen to their top tier frequent flyers. This simple gesture shows that QF are serious about customer service and flying with QF isn't just about the flight, it's about the whole customer experience from booking the tickets, selecting seats, checking in, lounge access, boarding etc.

Always a pleasure to travel with QF.

Keep up the good work.

I was in the new lounge last week and yes it is great! Goodness, the design and layout is fab and a very welcome change to the old airline lounge atmosphere.

The food while plentiful was a bit average, the couple of dishes I tried were very sub par. The execution of the food paled in to significance when compared to the surprisngly fresh and modern menu in the Sydney international business lounge.. A big and noticeable change in Sydney from previous visits.

Although there was certainly a bit of coughtail action behind the bar happening when I arrived when I asked for what looked like a Mojito another customer was having I was told that coughtails were unavailable! Oh well.... settling in problems....

There were lots of 'Grey Nomadish' JQ customers heading to AKL in the lounge who too were very vocal and seemed to enjoy putting their flight socks on in front of everyone in addition to their bare feet on the tables.. Ahem!!! Maybe some discreet discussions to customers regarding appropriate behaviour will eventuate in the future once the dust has fully settled.

Oh, three urinals and three cubicles in the male bathrooms were U/S... some major plumbing concerns!

Nevertheless the lounge is very impresive... and so are the staff.... Particularly the Lounge Angels at the front door. A breath of very fresh air indeed. .

Big congrats to QF...

QF... can we have some more please ???? :D
OOh Roo
