The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I have completed a Sri Lankan Airlines return flight Melb to Colombo, earning 6100 Fly Smile Miles. Can I convert to QFF points? I have a QFF account.

No. Points aren’t transferable between oneworld programs (except for avios).

You could possibly have elected to put the points from the Sri Lankan flight straight on to your qantas account, by providing your Qantas FF number into the booking instead of fly smiles. If you are returning on Sri Lankan, check the fare class is eligible to earn on Qantas FF and change numbers.

Is there the concept of "blackout" for CR release for WP and P1s?

A mate of mine is P1 and is looking to get 1x J seat released on any SIN-SYD/MEL during school holidays in April. QF VIP have said that there are no seats left to convert, no manual review as well. Looking at EF, there are at least I7, T1, R9 etc for the flight they want.

I'm guessing the situation in the ME is responsible for increased restrictions for CR releases regardless of status.

Yes there are blackout periods. April school holidays is one of those periods. July August for flights to Europe and December too. Late March and April is currently blacked out for Japan and other Asian ports too. Combined with the war, it’d be very hard to get anything new released now’s

IME yes there were some international routes where I couldn’t get releases or manual review. They told me to call back later in case seats were released.

Edit: I don’t know if they were actually blackout dates as such as the agent didn’t say that was the case, but the effect was the same - I couldn’t get the flight/date I wanted.

Can someone please confirm that NB and PS members can still see partner CRs at 350+ days out (if available), even though access to CRs on QF metal are to something like restricted 297d and 323d out etc?

Hello,

I have been travelling domestically with Qantas for many years, but I have never checked in my luggage.

Next week I have a family trip, so I need some checked luggage (ADL->MEL->ADL). But I noticed that Qantas has a restriction on Domestic flights: the combined dimensions of the luggage must be 140cm. The luggage that I have is around 155cm.

Provided I stick to the 23kg weight limit, can I use my existing luggage? I really hate to buy 3,4 new luggage just for one domestic trip, where these days even saving one dollar means a lot.

I called Qantas to inquire about this. After waiting 30 mins, an agent answered and said they dont know whether it will be allowed or not, and told me to call my airport. So I sent the inquiry to Adelaide Airport. Funnily, the airport said to get this answered from Qantas. Since I was getting nowhere, I thought of getting input from experienced travellers.

Any input on this would be really helpful. Thank you
