The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Gday All
Newbie here. A big thanks in advance for any help!
Couple of questions here if anyone can help me out.
Ive just recently hit Platinum with Emirates, and have Qantas Gold as well.
Shortly i will be flying Syd to LAX on a points purchased Y flight on QF. I notice that there is no emirates codeshare on the SYD to LAX. Since I wont get any points or SC. Am I best to use my Emirates FF # as opposed to my qantas FF#?
Will i be able to use the F lounge at either end? Or does it have to be a code share flight for any emirates benefits?
Thanks
Pretty sure trans pacific flights on QF are outside the QF/EK partnership, so EK status wont work at all on either end (ie no QF F un SYD nor LAX, probably not even EK SYD). So it’s QF J at SYD and at LAX either QF J or AA Flagship.

BTW, award flights usually book with the operating airline code (there are some exceptions) but not common.

That’s right; they’re not part of the Master Coordination Agreement between QF & EK. Effectively treated like on another airline with these flights

Welcome to AFF @Blue@

As others have indicated, this will be a straightforward Qantas (only) flight, with your QFF number in the booking. You will get Qantas Gold benefits, so no F lounge. I don't know what other benefits EK Plat might give you on that itinerary.

So I have a Qantas Premier Platinum credit card that has two complementary lounge passes per year.
My question is: Is there any difference in lounge experience between using these two passes per year compared to paying for the annual lounge pass (obviously the annual lounge pass gives unlimited access).

Lounge amenities are available to everyone, irrespective of how you get in.

I think the main difference is that lounge members (whether bought, or through status) can request on departure upgrades at the lounge entrance, after check-in. Don’t believe this is extended to passengers using invitations.

Its the same lounge, int/dom J or QP dom/...
(((Unless you can get into any of the QFi F lounges, those are top notch, have done the MEL and SYD QFi F lounges when EK used to fly from MEL and SYD to AKL years ago, but...))).
The J lounges, are the same for all members, or lounge invitees, no differentiation.
Once you are inside, its all the same, ...

Another question: I earned enough points last year for points club and I have booked some domestic business class flights for next month and as the points earning tables tell be I am going to earn 40 SC for the flight I paid cash for and 18 x2 for the 2 flights paid for under classic plus rewards. Will the two flights under classic plus be recognised as two qualifying flights out of 4 required to advance to the next level?

Yes, they will be recognised. Any QF/JQ flight that earns status credits (which QF reward flights do for PC/PC+ members) are eligible

Firstly are baggage etc included when booking AF/KLM flights on QFF points in economy (intra Europe)?

And my assumption is that no status benefits from QFF is that right? (In which case can I put in a Skyteam status after the points booking?)

If you have that option, do it at checkin (if not before - if possible!).

Unfortunately no [status] benefits, unless you're on the QF codeshare, which isn't possible with the classic rewards. You may need to try and access the booking via AF/KLM to add a SkyTeam membership to the booking; if it lets you make that change at all
