I don’t think this warrants its own thread, but I’m curious what the old QF SYD first class lounge looked like before the current one opened in the late 00’s. Would love to hear from those more experienced travellers here.

The first time I used a Qantas First Lounge in the at SYD it was in the 90's and the lounge was about 50 metres long and 10 wide. Located at the departures level overlooking gate 31, the entrance was across the concourse from gate 24. The then business lounge shared the same entry but J PAX were directed down escalators to an area looking across to gate 31.

Prior to the Olympics a new lounge was built on the current mezzanine level. The business lounge took up 80% of the northen end and the First lounge was at the Southern end; basically where the lower foyer is for the current First Lounge.

In ~2007 the current First lounge located above the business lounge was opened.

I believe before the J lounge expansion was built downstairs, that area overlooking gate 31 served all lounge eligible PAX. I am not certain about segregation but MEL had similarly limited space near gate 3 with First and business having separate areas.

Goodness, ow I think about it, back then both MEL and SYD had small landside international lounges. I never used Sydney's.

As for decor for all those venues, think of the recently closed Auckland First lounge.

HI, I have this weird booking that has appeared in my QF Bookings. Anybody no what it is? QZW-QZY. It will not let me open it.

I think that’s right. Memory is vague but I have a feeling the F lounge was downstairs, and just a small section on the left. Later that small section was incorporated into the business lounge.

For Elanshin, was a cancelled booking involved, if I think correctly, going back quite a while, there was something that (on here by the Insider, I think), that if someone cancelled a booking, and there was a flight credit of some sort, the QZW - QZY comes up.

You can filter on wide body flights on ITA Matrix but not sure if any are consistently A330.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve found that QF428 and QF413 are operated by 789s on Thursdays and Wednesdays respectively… but very few widebodies overall it seems

Ah, I’d seen some references to 787s. Shame about the timing for leisure travellers. But pleasant for those working gentlemen’s hours.
