The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Question re: requesting upgrades on a Flex Y domestic ticket as SG.

As SG on a Flex CBR-ADL and could not request upgrade 90 mins (approx) prior to departure. Ticket was booked thru work TA, who confirmed that there is no restriction to request upgrades etc.

1. Google AI Overciew tells me that the windows to request upgrade closes 5 hours before departure
2. QF website says 3 hours before boarding
3. I thought if the pax is WP and above, they can request upgrade in the lounge until boarding is announced. Is there something similar for SG?

Which one of the above is true - any thoughts please? Thanks in advance.

Any lounge member - qantas club upwards - can request an on departure upgrade. This is within three hours of departure.

If available, they will be confirmed instantly.

Perhaps no availability in your case?

You [may] need to request the on departure upgrade in the lounge. Have you checked EF to see what's still open?
Didn’t have access to EF, so couldn’t check. But out of the 9 J seats onboard E190 only 4 were occupied, rest were empty.

This page - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/freque...ticle:nn:en:nn#domestic-on-departure-upgrades - seems to indicate that if it comes back ‘unavailable’ there are no seats for upgrade.

Could be a catering issue.

Not sure if the right message came up though in your case? While the upgrade is unavailable, maybe it got your eligibility wrong?

Can I bring my child under 2 to enter the qantas lounge via the complimentary lounge invite ? does he (under 2) need his own separate invite or can he enter with me?

I booked my a points flight with Qantas. Is it possible to get the 6k points waived with a medical certificate?

Totally separate to Qantas but I also have a cash flight booked with AirAsia. Any chance I could get a refund/credit with a medical certificate?

I know in the past I have had the fees waived, just be polite on the phone

I lodged a ticket through their compliments/complaint portal and also sent an email @acinod after cancelling flights on Sunday for upcoming surgery on Monday.
Reply by Tuesday was to supply a medical certificate - which I did Wednesday.
Am waiting on the outcome but by the tone of the email response I feel reasonably confident. I will update with my outcome.
Not sure about Air Asia, but worth a try.
Good luck.

Air Asia has a similar policy, require medical certificate. The process is outlined in their website.

Update : @acinod received email confirmation from Qantas today.
Points cancellation fee 6000 per pax immediately refunded to my account with a nice email - assuming from a human - if not - still very happy with outcome @iamsuperandrew

Under 2 years old won't be a problem. I have taken infants in several times.
Enjoy the lounge! It's a great space when they're asleep and you can treat yourself before the flight
Yes agreed. No need for a pass for under 2

Hi, Haven't done this in a while. So apologies if this is a dumb question.

Via the Qantas website, I plan to book a Classic Reward flight SYD-DXB-MAD (Economy)
I'm using the Multi City booking option as I recall that accesses a different system to the regular book a flight option.

As expected on that route, the flights are EK.

Before I go ahead with the booking....

Will I be able to select my seat?
Given that it's an EK aircraft and an EK flight number?

If I'm not able to select a seat, are there other booking options?
Travelling with my wife so getting some random seat may cause a divorce

Didn't want to complete the booking process and find there was no seat selection option....

I was able to select seats on a QF Classic Award J booking on an EK bird SYD-CHC and return earlier this year, so I can't see why not - unless there is a J/whY difference in being able to do so.

How Far to Book Ahead?

Was having this discussion today and I'm honestly not sure.

For Classic Reward flights I tend to book them when they are released.

But what about cash paid seats (economy)?

For example is it better to book well ahead for a return trip to Europe.
Or is it better to leave booking the return trip for a last minute booking, and hope for some discounts.

I was looking at a 2-3 month trip where the return date is not that fixed. i.e. not sure when we plan to come home. Book last minute return or lock it in a few months out?

I suppose the question is really about the fluctuation of air fare prices.
Are they cheaper a long way out like 12 months, or last minute?

I'm flying QF1 next week all the way through from SYD to LHR. Is it possible to select different seats for each segment, or will I need to ask at check-in or in the lounge? Looking at ExpertFlyer, there is more availability on the SIN-LHR segment, but I online I appear to only be able to select seats based on availability across both segments.

Similarly, how do upgrades work on this flight? Assuming it's possible to be upgraded on one segment but not the other?

TIA

Hi all, hoping the hive mind can help clarify whether my whole family will have lounge access under the following scenario:

We're flying to Fiji on a Fiji Airways–operated flight. My flight was booked via Qantas using points, but it has an FJ flight number. My partner and kids were booked separately through Qantas and have QF flight numbers. I’ve called Qantas and had the bookings linked.

I have Gold status, so I know I can access the Qantas lounge in Wellington with one guest. However, I’m unsure whether the kids will be allowed in, especially given this section on the Qantas site:

"Child access into Qantas lounges is applicable for eligible customers travelling on a Qantas marketed and operated flight only."

Has anyone had a similar experience? Are they usually strict about this rule?

Thanks all.
