The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Can we use domestic lounge before an intl flight (BP is Int'l). Reason for considering is a friend works at the airport and wants to catch up before we go and since we can't unclear Int'l customs I'm seeing if we can goto the dom lounge for a while.

(MEL so terminals are next door).
Access to Qantas lounges depends on a number of factors. If you hold a business class ticket with Qantas or another OneWorld airline, you can access both the domestic and international lounge (the latter only being the case if you are departing from the international terminal) on the date of departure. This access would be just for yourself. If you hold Qantas Gold (or OneWorld Sapphire) status you can access either Qantas lounges provided again you are flying with Qantas, JetStar or a OneWorld airline. Additionally you can bring in one guest also travelling Qantas/JetStar/OneWorld to either of the Qantas domestic Club or Qantas International Business lounges. Lastly, if you hold Qantas Platinum or Platinum 1 status (or OneWorld Emerald) and are travelling on Qantas, JetStar or a OneWorld airline you can access the Qantas domestic business lounge (which you can also guest 2 passengers travelling on a Qantas/JetStar/OneWorld flight that day) or the Qantas First class lounge out of the international terminal (which you can also guest 1 passenger travelling on Qantas/JetStar/OneWorld international flight for that). Lastly, when arriving in Australia on a Qantas/JetStar/OneWorld flight you can access the Qantas domestic lounge and may guest up to 2 such passengers also travelling on a Qantas/JetStar/OneWorld flight.

Now that's just the rules for Qantas lounges specifically. Each airport you visit will likely have other lounges which you can avail yourself of depending on status and/or class of travel. Looking at Melbourne international specifically there is the Emirates lounge which is open from 17:15 to 20:45 and also at 23:25 to 04:45. To access this lounge you must be flying Qantas business or hold Qantas Gold or above. For the latter you can guest one passenger in travelling on a Qantas or Emirates flight. I would argue that the Emirates lounge at Melbourne is better than the Qantas Business lounge, and I say that having never visited the Emirates lounge at Melbourne. Obviously Qantas First would be your best choice if you have status.

Hope that clears things up

Warning: succinct answer follows.

If you have QF lounge access, yes.

IME Emirates Lounge is way above QPi for service, food and beverage options, comfort, furniture, and overall ambience @kangarooflyer88 - hope you get the opportunity to visit 😀

Does anyone have a list of timings for crediting points and SCs from partner airlines to QFF? I realise that timings can vary greatly but more to satiate my own curiosity to be honest.

Not aware of any definitive list but but IME (indicative timings - maybe +1 day):

QF - same day
QF CR (PC/PC+) - next day
JQ - within days?
AA - next day or two
AS - 3 to 7 days
AY - 3 to 7 days
BA - 2 to 3 days
CX - about 7 days
FJ - 3 to 7 days
IB - 2 to 3 days
JL - 3 to 7 days
MH - not flown for a while but was in 3 to 7 days range
QR - 3 to 7 days (maybe quicker?)

Edit: others might be able to fill in the gaps and calibrate my understanding.

There are always some outliers and the occasional no shows… Sometimes on the same booking! 🤷‍♂️

If 14 days have past and points/SCs haven’t posted, that’s usually a good time to email or try the online claim form.

ALWAYS keep a record of the eTicket and Boarding Passes until they’ve posted.

Thanks for the list! I've got two JQ Max flights waiting to be credited and it's been a bit over a week (which should push me over the line from PS to SG). I'll give it a few more days before I put the missing points claim in.
I also had one QF codeshare (QF marketed, JL metal) that needed a manual claim earlier in the year but that was approved quite quickly.
JL - 3 to 7 days
JL domestic I've noticed tends to credit to QFF on Mondays I think. I have yet to figure out the cut off day before one has to wait an additional week (I'm thinking it's Friday).
Similar deal with CX as well I reckon, the CX flights I've flown seemed to all have credited to QFF on Tuesdays it seems lol.

Yes, I meant to say that some seem to batch their reporting. So those 3 to 7 days are probably more like 1 to 7 days - if a weekly batch.

Platinum newbie here and flying MEL to LAX in a few months with wife + 2 very well-behaved kids (14 and 18) - all Bronze.

Question: will I be allowed to bring the whole clan to the International First Lounge in MEL?

If the answer is NO, is an alternative to use the 2x lounge invites so I can deposit the kids in the International Business Lounge while wife and I enjoy the First Lounge?

Thank you!

Plat members allowed to bring just one guest into the Flounge. Very rarely, at quiet times, they may allow one more in, but I doubt two, ever. Prior to the LAX flight it won't be quiet.

Don't know about lounge passes, sorry.

I think the 18yo will count as an adult, so would need their own pass. The other a child though so could go in with you to F, or, with a pass to J.

Couldn't hurt to ask but I'd prepare the 18YO to return to J alone with a lounge pass, possibly with the 14YO in tow so they're not alone?

Alternatively you could all enter J, wife and 14yo as your guests, 18yo with a pass, and then you and wife head up to F.

Great idea and saves me 1 pass.

Question about this option: Will I be allowed to enter F lounge after entering J lounge to deposit the kids? Thanks.
