Yes and it seems like I’ve just missed the recent promo for DSC. I’m assuming it’s a yearly thing, because I’m not counting on it to pop again and have my flights before November for status.

I’m continuing to weigh my options though currently it’s very tempting to push for silver as I have around $600 in Jetstar credit that isn’t expiring anytime soon but it’s still there at the same time.

Another question is for the 4 sectors you have to complete to get silver, does it only show up as complete once you have gone on a flight or will it show as complete just having a pending flight?

You won’t get the status until you do the flights. No “pending”, just no status. :)

Apologies for the confusion with my poor wording. You're correct about the number SCs required. What I mean't was needing 50 more SCs the following year to reach silver if you decide not to go for it this year.

But Jetstar doesn't really recognise Qantas status. The only benefit would be the use of complimentary lounge passes in conjunction of Jetstar flights but that's about it.

In relation to the @Fausaken's original question, to me the biggest benefit as a QF Silver / Oneworld Ruby was the access to business check-in on international flights. If you plan on at least a few international trips, then gaining QF Silver might make sense to you. Domestically, it's a bit of a non-event (apart from the two lounge passes).

If you want a couple of lounge passes, it might be a lot cheaper and easier to get a credit card that offers complimentary passes. Also, sometimes people gift surplus passes here or offer to "guest" someone with them so you might be lucky here, too. If you are after the RFID luggage tags, you can purchase them separately and that, again, will be cheaper and faster than flying for 165SC.

Also I attained green tier for this year and I saw posts about how if you hit second year of green the rewards aren't offered until after your green tier ends so for me it will be September 2024 or am I understanding that wrong?

Yes. If earned now, you'll have Points Club until September 2024.

The current glitch in the system is that you will get offered rewards this year, however if you renew green tier between September 2023 and September 2024, you will not be presented the reward selection until October 2024. I don't think this is intentional though, it's an IT glitch.
 
Just had my DSC SYD > CBR > MEL rewards J flight cancelled. They're rebooking me on a direct SYD > MEL Y flight.

If i understand correctly I should get a refund of points (and taxes?) And i should still be able to chase down my points through ORC right?

Would be nice getting 72SC for 8k points

Yes, you can ask for original routing credits. Just keep all relevant documents like e-tickets, cancellation emails and boarding passes. And be prepared to wait for a long time. I am still waiting for ORC and DSC on that owed since February 2023.

I'm still waiting for one lot (only partially resolved) since December!
 
Not really a newbie question, but probably not worth a whole new thread. Does anyone know if the call centre can book classic rewards on EK to/from London Stansted? STN isn’t an option for online bookings on the QF site which shows only LHR, LGW and LCY.

STN reliably gets the new EK F product and last minute F availability is reportedly often good. I’m toying with options to modify a leg of an upcoming Europe trip but it’s a big gamble to leave it to the last minute…especially seeing as I am only SG I have no chance of talking to HBA to book and ticket reliably.
 
Before I go for round three with the call centre, is there a magic phrase I can say to get them to add a leg to an award flight, assuming it's still possible to do this? (I have a feeling I may be confusing them with accidental word salad when I try to explain.)

I can see the award availability online for the additional leg, however so far in two calls I've had one person outright say they cannot add legs to existing bookings at all and another say no it can't be done, but if I booked the award seat on a seperate itinerary they can link the bookings (which, correct me if I'm wrong, is not the same thing as adding a leg to a booking and I would not have a protected connection?)

Try searching ADL-SIN.

If you don’t get the flight combinations you want with that search then it’s very likely MSC and won’t be available.
Interesting development on this one. I looked into the flight path again today and it appears ADL-PER-SIN is a bookable flight combination/path now having not been available before (transit through MEL/SYD only). I actually decided to book the sector individually as sub-optimal in points as it sounds but interesting that they made the flight path available closer to scheduled date.
 
Random question, if I have a paid (return) ticket in Y or Y+ for an international flight and later a J award seat gets released, can I call and have one of the segments changed to the award fare and get a refund for the original paid ticket (segment) minus the change fee? Or do I need to tear down that paid PNR/booking and book anew with the J award?

I'm going to go with no.

Mostly because your return ticket would need to be repriced at the very least. They won't just sub in that as a U seat and do a pro-rata change. They'd probably assess again as a one way on the return sector alone (which probably more expensive than the return) and want to reissue to be honest. And let's not forget that a re-fare of the ticket would be at today's fare levels for the flight in question, rather than whatever was paid for the original fare - so say it was a sale Y fare originally for $x, it would be reassessed at the available fare levels.

While I'm not a ticketing guru and we have some experts in that area in the forum, I've some experience wit combined reward/cash fare tickets and the like, and this would appear to be an potentially ugly scenario. Happy to be corrected though.

I was going to suggest - you could try but computer might say no.

I know there are limits to mixing and matching whY and J at the best of times.
 
Esp to do with QF, I would not get it to be too complicated, the horror stores that exist on here, when things go wrong, for what ever reason, whether it be the outsourced agent misunderstood, or just did something majorly wrong.
Unless you are a higher grade (upper status QFF member), your call to them will be put to the overseas outsourced CSA.
Not so bad if you got the HBA CSA, who are QF employees, but if you are lower grade (lower status), you are playing with fire, yes, it could go the way you want, ideally, or it could also go the opposite.
