The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

If memory serves, I think Select on Q Eat went the way of the dodo long before COVID. A shame because it was really handy and did work.
Yes - might well have been the case. I only had it work out a couple of times early on in its existence, with all later attempts being thwarted by successful upgrade requests; damn!! 😝

Does this indicate that there's a child seated in 1A? Or just that's it's a bassinet position?
This is on QF291.

So it seems like Qantas have changed the family transfers policy and you can now transfer up to 4m points per year instead of only 600k.
Yes, there’s another thread. I actually thought there was no cap now. Also, the min has been reduced.

Bit of a newbie question.

I understood (and my be wrong) that certain tiers get earlier access to reward flights, my sister is gold, I am silver (with green tier and points plus) and my daughter is bronze.

As it stands we can see the same booking dates 9th of Dec 24 and the same flights.

This doesn't seem right

Thanks, I was just looking for my own post to provide an update on it and it happened to be in this thread.

That other thread doesn't mention the maximum 4m points per year, but instead has been stated as unlimited.

When I hover over "Points available to transfer" within the transfer points page, it just mentions :

"You can transfer 4,000,000 points every 12 months. Your total points transfer for the current period is xx_,xx_"

Recently minted QFF SG - I'm hoping someone can double check that I've got my understanding of lounge access rules correct as an SG:
  1. I can access any QF domestic club or QF intl business lounge as long as I have a ticket with a QF, JQ, OW partner (marketed+operated) or EK flight number for the day in question (also MU but only on flights between Australia and mainland China - is this going away with the wind-down of the QF/MU partnership?)
  2. I can only access a OW member business lounge (e.g. CX HKG The Pier Business) if the ticket is with a QF or other OW partner flight number (so no JQ/GK/3K)
  3. No access to certain special lounges on QFF SG/OW Sapphire status alone, like the QR DOH Al Mourjan Business lounge or the QR SIN Premium Lounge - must be on a QR or OW member business class cash/award ticket for access in these cases
  4. I can only guest in someone to a QF or OW intl business lounge if they are also traveling on a QF or other OW partner flight number, and maybe EK

Yes to all 4 points.

With regards to MU/QF nothing to suggest this going away for now.

Just checked in for my CBR-SYD-BKK-DEL flight … bags tagged thru to DEL, but BP only issued till BKK. Was told to collect BKK-DEL BP from Thai airways after landing in BKK. When I asked, was told that we don’t have any agreement with Thai Air. I thought if all the legs were in the same ticket, BP can be issued?

Usually, yes, but the devil will be in the detail of the asterisk:

The allocation of seats available to Bronze members is exhausted (well, at least looking for 4 seats).

All available seats will open up at T-80.

You can check on ExpertFlyer what seats are actually free v blocked.

So T-80 arrived and I managed to pick 1A, 1K, 2A, 2K!!! The seat map is on the new A380. I was surprised by that as I would have thought they are restricted to QF WP or above only. I did put in QR Gold number on my reservation.

Would my seat selection stick or they will kick us out of the F seats during check in? It is QF127 if it helps.

No, they should hold I would think. congrats on snagging those seats.

It's entirely possible that the higher level status pax aren't flying these routes at this time of year, or haven't bothered. And at T-80, such restrictions are removed so you got lucky.

Enjoy your flights

I got another question about lounge access and guesting:
If say I were traveling with a (larger) group of mates on the same QF/*O flight in Y, and not enough of us were *O S or E for lounge access, can I "swap" in and out guests for lounge access?

And perhaps a sillier question, but for the four QF/JQ group flights requirement to reach QFF PS or higher, are these flights eligible to meet this requirement?
  1. QF codeshares on *O member metal
  2. QF codeshares on non-*O member metal (e.g. QF8xx_ on EK metal)
  3. Classic Reward tickets with a QF or JQ flight number
  4. JQ fares that don't earn QFF Pts/SCs

1 and 2 would count in all cases; I understand 3 only counts if QF AND if you are points club or points club plus, and 4 does NOT count.

Regarding lounge pax swapping - you may have luck if visiting different Oneworld or otherwise eligible lounges at the same airport but I would presume the lounge dragons wouldn't allow you to swap people in and out. Often, both boarding passes are scanned (you and guest). I've never tried this but assume that scanning would somehow mark you as blocked.
