The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Quick question - I plan on booking my partner on a QF award flight with me down to HBA. I already have myself booked for that flight and selected a seat. My question is, if I were to use my Qantas account to book her award flight would she have access to the same seating benefits as I despite us being on separate PNRs?

If not on the same PNR a lower tiered pax will not be able to select seats from a higher tiered seating area using MMB even if you did the booking for her from your account. If on the same PNR it would be no issue.

This is something the contact centre can do - I do this regularly by calling post booking.

Not a newbie, but a first time question - how/where on the web site do I claim for Original Routing Credit? My flights home from Japan were involuntarily changed to come via SYD to CBR instead of MEL to CBR, meaning I got downgraded to the dreaded Dash-8 and so not the Business Class seat I paid for and expected SCs for. Refund not worth pursuing, but I want the SC. Never had to claim ORC before so not sure how to do it. Used search on the Qantas web site and it came up with nothing. Thanks, hive mind!

I have a question on earning QFF status credits flying Cathay Pacific SYD-HKG.
On the Cathay Pacific site I can't see what fare class is which, and using the status credit calculator I can only see Flexible economy earns. Does anyone know what these economy lite/economy categories equate to for QFF earn?

This table (click or scroll to Cathay) shows which Fare class earns what. If not listed, it doesn’t earn at all.

I might be wrong, but I think CX shows the fare class as you get to the payment page.

Otherwise, something like Google Flights and ITA Matrix will give you an idea of what fare buckets equate to the prices you see.

I believe it should earn 15 SC according to the partner airline table for anything other than Flexible Y ticket. That being said, my missing points claim the agent didn't work out that I had a lite ticket and credited me for flex economy (30SC) since "that's all that showed up on the calculator".

Try emailing [email protected] with the original e-ticket and boarding passes to request for ORC before following it up with a phone call if required
OK I finally got around to it today, so let's see how long it takes and what I get! this is the email I sent and what I asked them for:

"In March 2023, I purchased tickets CBR-SYD-HND (24 January 2023) and return HND-MEL-CBR (21-22 Februarry2023) with all legs in Business Class.
  • In September 2023, Qantas unilaterally changed my return flights to HND-SYD-CBR (21-22 February 2023), with HND-SYD in business but the last leg SYD-CBR in economy on a Dash -8 service.
  • My FF account shows that I flew SYD-CBR on 22 Feb in discount economy. I received only the discount economy credits (10 status credits) for this last leg, instead of the 40 that I would have received if the flights I booked were not altered by Qantas.
  • Please provide me with the status credits for the original routing.
  • Further, this ticket was eligible for double status credits, which have been received for all legs, including the economy SYD-CBR leg. Once the original routing status credits are added to my account, would you also please provide the relevant double status credits for the original routing.
  • Additionally, If there is any difference in FF points between discount economy SYD-CBR and business MEL-CBR, please provide me with the FF points for the original routing.
  • Finally, could you advise whether I am eligible for any refund, as I am sure the cost of a discount economy flight from Sydney to Canberra must be less than the cost of a business class flight from Melbourne to Canberra."
A bit cheeky asking for the ORC and a refund, but let's see.

That's a full on request @Seat0B! Funny enough I also mentioned that I overpaid taxes because of the rerouting.

Let's see how long these take to process:

I was involuntarily bumped off my booked SYD-MEL-PER flight a few months ago, and moved to direct SYD-PER

I understand that I can request the full (missing) status credits be credited to me from the original booking.

This was a rewards booking, as a point club member, and no other compensation has been provided to date (such as a refund of the additional taxes)

As a Points club member – expected status credits were 18+38 = 56

Original booking
  • QF455 / QF779
  • Reference / e-Ticket >provided with screen shot<
Actual flight
  • QF655 SYD-PER
  • SC’s earned >screen shot of QFF account activity and 38 SC earned<
Please arrange the additional 18 status credits to be posted to my QFF Account, Member xx_xx_xx_. I wasn’t going to ask for this but realise I might actually make Silver Status for the first time later this year with this points credited to my account.

Any questions or additional information required, please phone me or send an email reply.

If I’m flying SYD-SIN on QF F, can I access the QF F or J lounge at Changi on arrival, assuming no onward travel on any OW airline?

I have a newbie classic reward question.
Looking into flights for early January 2024, either Port Douglas or Hamilton Island.
I see there are economy classic reward seats, MEL to CNS, so thats good...
BUT, MEL to HTI, there are currently no economy reward seats, just business class reward seats.
My first preference is HTI, but im not paying full cash fare - so CNS would be next option.
If economy reward seats were to be released for HTI, would they have been released by now?
Knowing my luck, if i got the economy reward seats MEL to CNS return, Qantas will 'release' economy seats to HTI soon after.
Want to have flights organised by end of March.

In my experience no one is monitoring that dropbox at all. I lodged two separate ORC claims via that and received no response other than the auto one for a couple of weeks. In the end I just called up and played agent roulette (these calls get routed to Manilla), 2 agents out and out lied about doing something, the 3rd fixed my ORCs (removed the direct flight from my history and re-added the original flights from my ticket) BUT said couldnt amend the DSCs - still waiting on those.
