The Qantas Edge in First [ AJ: "Customers drool over our ...{Neil Perry} ... food!" ]

Oh
Ever wondered what Qantas thinks its edge over its competitors is. Now we know

So, there you go
Oh dear. I’m texting this (free of course) mid-air from SIA’s new A380 First Class suites on the way to Singapore. Joyce is in denial. The SIA food, service and hard product leave WF for dead. Some of the worst and most pitiful First food I’ve ever had was on a QF flight to Changi from MELBOURNE.

Not to mention the tilting plates....

I was having a very quiet day today...until kermatu reminded me about my impending Fred Perry experience and now you have reminded me about those bloody plates. (Makes mental note to relocate bacon & eggs to the centre of the plate to avoid them flying everywhere when the plate tips.)

:p

Eeeeeeeekkkkkkk - stop it! I hate that awful, pressed-steel, blunt picnic cutlery :mad::mad:. Not to mention the tilting plates....
You would think in the age of instagram QF would realise that their cutlery is well and truly past its use by date.
It's no longer quirky and cute, it's just tired and dull.

“The one thing we kill everyone else on is our people. Our staff are amazing; the cabin crew is probably the best trained in the world.”

Really? Really Mr. Joyce? Have you seen what other airlines put their crew through to train them up?
Has he ever been on an SQ plane where the service is consistent? Hmmm...

I am by no means a frequent flyer and whilst I have no intention of defending the QF spin around its F product I never tire of making the same comment. QF and for that matter BA F are a step up from any J products I have experienced in long haul apart from the QR Q-Suite. (I have experienced VA, QF, BA, QR, EK, EY, CX, UL, AA, LA, MH, AY and JL in J over the past 10 years) Even the QR Q-Suite feels a bit cramped compared to QF F.
But Qsuite is J class. And the middle seats with the barrier down are large.

Why QF can't render a NP salad palatable with just a few simple additions, like this on CX J HKG-PER on Monday night, I'm stuffed if I know.

This has been a major irritant for me for years. I really like salad, in fact I would be happy to just have a big salad instead of a starter. But those pathetic green leaf mixtures are not salads :(

They are still in the F lounges (my corn fritters nearly flew away the other day) but I thought they were changed onboard? Haven’t flown QF F for over a year so don’t know myself.

Given they take it away after the starter (on J flights in my experience anyway) suggest it’s more of a weird palate cleanser in my view. Just awfully marketed as a salad — which it sure ain’t.

Have you ever had the salad on EK F? Sounds great (and customisable). There are too many other delights so I’ve never tried.

No I haven’t actually - not a big eater and so many other nice things to try that I haven’t! I did have their mezze selection once and that finished me off for the rest of the flight :)

But Qsuite is J class.

Indeed, but I thought I made that clear in my original post.

I can't comment on the situation where the centre Q-Suites are converted into a multi-seat space, I am only comparing a single Q-Suite to a single F seat. :)

When I used to flyQFi I would refuse the NP "salad".Usually with the comment-"green leaves do not a salad make.'

Agreed on this. I have tried SIA A380 Old + New Suites, both are amazing compared to what I have read and watched (vblog) the QF F experience. The problem is that if I do book QF F, I would have an expectation of F class experience. Looking at the reviews here the expectation are definitely not met, and I don't really want to be disappointed.

This is delusional in respect of both the food and the wine.
Qantas is way behind airlines such as Etihad for first class food.
And while I love some Australian wines - our bold SA reds in particular - there is no comparison between Australian sparkling wine and actual champagne.
The champagne QF serves in F should be servd in INT J and the champagne served in INT J should replace the Grant Burge acid rain currently served in DOM J.
Then they could introduce some really nice champagne in F.
I flew Qantas J December 2018 Mel to Singapore and the steward said he had a nice champers for me. I got all excited but when he said it was Grant Burge, I was most disappointed as I was expecting something French. I told him I can have Grant Burge anytime (I am in ADL) so I requested something French, which he obliged me.

We all have opinions! We have tried SQ suites old and new .... mrsamaroo rates QF F food superior, that includes the SYD F lounge v TPR. I thought the salad was better on SQ :) SYD F lounge beats the TPR IMHO.
