The Operational Upgrade Thread

Intra-Asia the only difference on board with PE is the bigger seat. Catering is the same across both PEY and Y. It's quite common for CX to roll-forward on these flights.

I'll take a "free" larger seat on any flight. Especially if it's a) under 3 hours or b) long enough to properly sleep (> 8 hours)

Happy wandering

Understood. The bigger seat was nice. The choice of fish curry and rice or pasta was awful. The curry was way too hot as a choice of 2 meals. I was in 31G. The person in front of me didn't recline but the person in 30D did recline and from what I saw (and photographed) the space left in 31D was minimal. Would have ruined my flight.

Op-ups are appreciated but I would rather not be op-uped out of economy bulkhead into reclineable premium economy.

More love from CX so far, getting a Y -> J op up on Saturday morning. Both myself and my other half were upgraded. It created a bit of a dilemma for me as my other half's first ever flights on SQ and CX were in J. Talking about setting a high benchmark...

Just got points upgrade from Melbourne to Brisbane confirmed 4 days out no biggie but a nice touch anyway.

Don't you just hate when the older, rather nervous looking passenger in 4E has a broken seatbelt?

Not wanting her to be separated from her husband, I took a deep breath and told the CSM I was happy to move if that made things easier. "Thank you sir." was the reply.

I stood. Slowly.

I looked nervously towards the rear of the cabin. All 30 knee crushing rows of it.

My heart sank at the prospect of ending up in a row with double digits for the first time in two years.

Then the CSM confirmed my worst fears...

I'd have to carry my own hand luggage...

All the way to 2D. :)

[sung] "Feels like home to me...":D

Well done - on both counts.

Flying QF93 in award Business (U) - when boarding my BP initiated a red light and a beep!

Oh! trick or treat ...

In this case it was a treat - moved to row 5 First on the 388 ... :D

(It had been showing zeroes in all fare buckets day of flight.)

I'm hoping to be beeped from row 11 to row 5 or higher in about 2 weeks on route 94 with an I fare, and with family member in row 2 with a P fare

Happy to hear a good deed got you the upgrade! Nice when Karma works out.

CX continues to want to fill their planes...

Y->Y+ PER-HKG 11 Jan Y was definitely FULL as was PEY.
Y->J CMB-HKG 13 Jan (no PEY seating and I was mote interested in sleeping than seeing if Y was full).
Delightful CSM confirmed they have a 25 hour layover on the hkg-cmb-hkg flights and seemed pleased I was doing a quick turnaround after having visited my friend near Colombo.

Happy wandering (at least for a couple of days)

Had a very comfortable flight EK J from SYD to DXB. Breakfast and shower in lounge ready for next leg to AMS.
At gate, boarding passes 9A and 10A torn up and replaced with........1E and 1F.
Literally skipped down the aero bridge when I realised it was a three class version A380!
F was full of regular guests who "barked" their food and 'when to wake me' orders to the FA :( Once their suite doors were closed that left 3 FA's to look after the very happy and genuinely excited pax. We were very spoilt. To experience the bathroom and shower is one we will never forget. Completely OTT.
A mid flight shower was on the bucket list and one not likely to occur .......but it did, and it gives us great pleasure recalling the feeling of the unexpected upgrade.

As mentioned over on the EK Upgrade Love thread... I've been lucky enough to have scored 2 separate upgrades for my wife and I from J to F on Emirates between SYD & AKL in the last 10 days. Outbound flight (EK412) on the 8th Jan was showing 0s in all Y & J buckets a few days out, with at least 4 still available in F, and so we knew it was a good chance... nothing at check-in or at the lounge (albeit we were at the QF F lounge), but got the 'seat change' red light at the gate and were sent to the suites!

Coming home yesterday on EK413, the flight was showing 0s in all but one of the Y fare buckets, but there was still quite a bit available in J, and then a few hours out from travel, all fare classes except for F buckets started to show zero. Again - nothing at check-in or at the lounge (EK AKL lounge), but got the red light at the gate, and it was back into the same suites we had on the flight over. The return journey was much nicer, with a full 3-course meal and lots of 2005 Dom Perignon on offer!

Obviously very happy with the results, and now at 33.3% for op-ups on EK (though I've only taken 6 flights in total! ;))

Cheers,
Matt.
