The Operational Upgrade Thread

Several weeks ago at Bangkok airport for a Finnair flight to Helsinki, there was a hand written upgrade cash price at the check in counter for both business and PE upgrades. PE had actually sold out. I mentioned to the check in staff that the price was very reasonable and no surprises they said the price was different every day.

China Eastern has that as well displayed on the check in counter, $300 from Y to PE and $2000 from PE to J, similar price for flights departing PVG.

It is a fixed price as it is a laminated sheet.

At a local level, we both scored an opup on QF113 DWN-SIN last Wednesday.
Because of aircraft changes (from a planned 321NEO to a 738) they didnt transfer our paid Exit Row seats to the changed aircraft. Many phone calls later saw us moved to Row 4, which I was happy with, then when we got to the lounge in DRW, the lounge guard smiled and said we were both upgraded with the compliments of QANTAS!!
5 enjoyable hours with a great crew.

The Mrs and I were in OPO-MAD on Iberia/ Aur Nostrum. We had e boarding passes, the check in desk wasn’t open so we went straight on and finally found the OPO lounge down by gate 35.
We went to Baird with gp 0/1. The e tickets didn’t come up as priority. “Boarding “ was just getting into the gate area before getting on a bus. We showed the gate agent or OWE. It was nice to see he was trained to see this and waved us into the priority zone. About 5 min later he came up with upgraded tickets. It was a nice touch.
Unfortunately our only upgrade in 5 years was a 45 min flight on. EU regional jet.
On boarding, the crew came and apologised that they might have problems with our meal choice as we were a late upgrade. She seemed relieved when I said it was 8.30 pm, we had been in the lounge and a glass wine for a 45 min flight would be perfect 😹
