Every now and then you get some strange people sitting next to you on a flight. Now I don't claim to be perfect & I don't mind if someone writes about my foibles but on my latest trip MEL-LAX I had one of those experiences that moves you to write it up.
I was on the upper deck seat 14B beginning to think that nobody had been allocated the seat next to me & thanking my luck stars that I wasn't downstairs next to the screaming kids when my 14 hour seat buddy arrived.
I thought to myself... this is good, a nice young & pretty lass and generally speaking, women don't have to get up out of the seat that often so I should get some sleep tonight. Ye gods, I couldn't get it so wrong. This woman kept on getting up to go to the bathroom, fetch more magazines, go walking, go somewhere but generally not to her seat.
When I was leaning back, eyes closed, sipping the welcome aboard champagne it felt like someone had turned the heater on for the air vent instead of the a/c. I opened my eyes and this woman was adjusting my air vent to turn it off :?
I mumbled something like 'what the ????' and she proceeded to tell me that all that reconditioned air is bad for me & that some air hostesses (sic) had told her she should avoid breathing it. Maybe she was feeling protective of me. :?:
Throughout the flight, she continually applied that horrible smelling uric acid handcream that smells like someone pi$$ed into the bottle and also squirting an eyedropper full of some herbal remedy into her mouth.
Needless to say, sleep did not occur and the only thing I'm thankful for is that I stayed awake long enough that day to slot perfectly into the new timezone for the next few weeks.

If anyone ever did this whilst sitting next to me, I'd feel quite justified to give them a swift attitude adjustment, a la Michael Douglas in 'Black Rain' (where he's just escorting the assassin back to Osaka)

Has no one ever heard of 'respecting other people's space' on board an aircraft ? Especially playing with the lights and the AC on someone else's side ?!

Sounds like she would then ask "What's your problem?"

It would probably go straight over her head :!:

    LITERALLY
