A $30 dollar booking fee and a $20 "price guarantee" fee is over the top. Flybuys should have kept the previous flight redemption. However having said that, if you have enough points, you can for the flight and taxes with only having to pay for $50 in fees.

Second / third rate program. Costs nothing to join so may as well collect points. Every once in a while I get some Coles / Myer vouchers. Better to use Amex at most of these retailers anyway as you will collect heaps more points that way. Never did take flybys too seriously and you certainly would not want this to be your No 1 rewards program !!!

Hi, the fly buys points required for a syd to Melbourne flight isn't 80000. I have 20000 points which gives me a $100 webjet voucher , which is more than enough for this flight. This also means any flight any time making it better than the woolworths program where you have to cross fingers and hope there's a seat through the qantas ff program. Also when the airlines have sales on e.g. $39 or $49 syd -Mel ,with flybuys you'll have enough for 2 flights.

Just one more reasons to never set foot into Coles and continue shopping at Woolies and- if possible- Aldi. Both of the two big ones offer the same cough quality of produce, overpriced products and bad service. However, one earns you Qantas points, the other doesn't :p

Even if i do find a cheap domestic flight, I still have to pay $30 dollars in fees! So really, what incentive do I have to earn flybuy points so that I can pay fees? If Flybuys and webjet were really serious about this, then there would not be any fees for booking on webjet! If you book with Zuji or STA no fees! #webjetfail #flybuysfail

For a single person who maybe spends $70 a week on groceries the new flybuys is certainly a better deal than EDR, especially since I don't drive so the fuel vouchers are wasted on me.

I've got Coles Building insurance now so that's 2 points per $ which makes the new system even better for me.

With the my5 I'm now able to save a bit of money on the stuff I buy multiple times a month. I'll take the $$ savings to spend the way I want than being totally locked into QFF points via EDR.

Prob the most convenient thing is the flybuys $ can be used much easier than the old get a gift card and wait a few weeks. I'd say this is saving flybuys / coles a huge amount of money as sending out the gift card was probably costing them up to $3 by the time all the handling costs were taken into account.

With a plat EDGE I get 3 points per $ plus 2 flybuys points. This weekend I was getting triple points because of the flybuys double points promo. That's another added benefit for someone who does small shops. Double points with EDR doesn't generally nett me many points. Double points with flybuys this weekend netted me an extra 49 points = 147 flybuys. Same deal with EDR would have netted me 38 points all up.

For a product called "Flybuys" this is a really confusing product, I believe a more generic loyalty / rewards name would have been better for this product, since it is clear that this product is generally not targeted to people who want flight rewards in turn for their shopping loyalty to Coles.

Is it better than the Mk 2 version, time will tell, however the name "Flybuys" sets a murky tone with me with the confusing booking & fee structures...

In the EDR camp, I think their loyalty program name is a better fit honestly....but I'm perhaps just a tad picky... ;)

How does this AGL thing work?
Have Coles Mastercard.
If I pay on it...how many points do I get 2 per $1 using the card?

I got the plat edge card as well. The only reason, I haven't got the EDR CC or other QF CC because I have been looking for work since finishing some postgrad studies last year. As I believe shintaro10x noted before, the flybuys point is worth 0.6 cents a point. This value for a flybuys point is set in stone(I think). Whereas a QFF point value can be maximised to something like 3 or 4 cents per point (Depending how you value your QF points). Ok in your example you are earning almost 4 times more points at Coles then WW. Most people have been getting double points offers at WW and also have 2x points on their EDR CC, so you could probably earn as many points at WW as you could at Coles. So if your using your QF points correctly then you would be getting much better value with EDR then flybuys.

Having said all that, If I could in a ideal world, I would be trying to earn points in both programs to maximise my flying options. E.g. If I had enough points on QFF I could book a JASA to europe/USA but would probably have to book it a year in advance to get the cheapest deal. With Flybuys, I could use points for when webjet had sales or I needed a late booking that would cost me too points with QFF.

I wonder if any of the guys who pay their ATO tax bills with their CC would use a Coles CC to earn Flybuys?

Sorry but I hardly ever get the double points offers at Woollies but virtually always have them at Coles. So my calculations are very different to yours.
Flybuys points =0.5 cents.Average value for QFF points-2.5cents.So I need to get 5xFB points to be in front. If no offers at either means spend $37 or less FB wins.Spend $38 or more EDR wins.
But if x2 at FB and nothing at EDR then the break even point is $50.
Obviously totally different for those getting multiple EDR bonus offers-but not all of us are in that boat.

In my case, all my ATO payments go on a QFF earning card, which then in turn is used for J upgrades or JASA's. Using points this way the value per QFF is ~3 to ~4 cents each. I am confused with the Flybuys product which makes it harder for me to calculate the earn & burn rates for flying from their product.

I will give them a chance, I just need a clearer understanding of their product which is not the easiest to find information...

You can maximise the number of offers from EDR by having family members signed up.
Well there are only 2 of us at home and we both have an EDR account.Doesn't matter if we stay away for a couple of months or have very large shops-ie ~$1000 at Christmas,we still dont get bonus offers.I went 13 months without a bonus offer. Finally got one in October last year the day after we left for OS-still activated it though the next one waited until last week.

Flybuys must have read your post as I just now got this offer-
Webjet is putting the fly back into flybuys!

Webjet is Australia’s largest online travel agency and have teamed up with flybuys to make booking your travel more rewarding. Between Sunday 13 May - Tuesday 22 May 2012, Webjet are offering you:

Triple flybuys points, plus an additional 500 BONUS POINTS on all Webjet bookings!^

Doing some dummy bookings on webjet and STA and bookings for QF to FRA and all the bookings are giving me Jetstar from MEL-SIN. Should be a way to exclude the deathstar from searches!

does anyone know how to work out how many points you need for a domestic flight? it seems to be a bit confusing now the flight section is linked with webjet...

Have to say I haven't worked out what is so wonderful about the new Fly Buys. They haven't marketed it to me very well, so I'll be sticking with Woolies, who seem to be trying much harder as far as I am concerned.

Looks to me as if Wesfarmers have shot themselves in the foot with this one.

It's a dud to me and to most people I know! It seems some of the "oldies" really like it, but most people want Qantas points and would have loved Velocity points with FlyBuys!

No Velocity deal = FAIL
