The new Flybuys launches Monday (April 23rd)

Looking at some of the benefits and pleased they finally got rid of points expiring after 3 years regardless of any activity. However if the new card goes live this Monday then why hasn't my new card come yet? I guess this is why I have been getting surveys from Qantas asking me about what retailers I would use. In the end, this is good for both flybuys and EDR users as hopefully the competition will be good for all of us.

Looks like the points are being revalued. At the moment, a point is worth 0.8c, whereas it looks to be changing to 0.5c.

Also, I note the the ColesMastercard site now says 2 points per dollar. Pretty sure that used to say 1 point per dollar.

I don't see Virgin Australia mentioned anywhere  and the fact they are partnered with Webjet means it's not happening I suspect

It's no secret DJ and Coles were having big tantrums over a possible tie up. Coles felt like they were the ones doing DJ a massive favour but DJ thought they had the upper hand.

It has been quiet though recently so maybe they sorted it and there is a big announcement coming?!?

.... Or Coles told them to go jump.

I'm hoping the former!

What I have read so far doesn't look to be very enticing. My only hope is that it will stir Woolies up and make EDRs more rewarding.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

ok here is my 2c,

ive generally avoided fly buys in the past because I couldnt believe how bad the program was, expiring points $5 for 1 or 2 points

but now its $1 per 1 point, it makes it far better,

HOWEVER, i find that the coles petrol is ALWAYS 1-2c more expensive then the woolworths petrol, so I dont refuel at coles petrol

that being said, I have found that prices at coles and woolworths shopping are generally the same BUT the specials at coles seem to be far better and more frequent

due to this change, I will now use my fly buys card to get $1 per 1 point, plus my cba amex to get 1.5 QFF per $1

I heard that you need 80,000 points to get from sydney to melb via flybuys, which makes it ridiculous, but at least its on top of my 1.5QFF per $1,

so I wont be expecting anything decent, but maybe in a few years, Icould afford a trip overseas. but no doubt by then the redeem required will go up as per usual of these programs

It's about time, really needed a shot in the arm, even if the much-expected Velocity tie up didn't happen (My assumption is with Webjet being listed this is the case).

I'm also hoping for a similar "pre loaded fuel voucher" system like the EDR program. I tend to keep leaving the paper vouchers at home instead of in my car, would be nice if they could be on the card! Seeing as they have got a "My5" promotion listed, this indicates to me that there is more to the card than just an identification number via barcode, as there must be somewhere on their system where that information is kept and accessed when you scan. Small step to then load any fuel vouchers, one would hope.

Also, good to see it is now a more simple "1$ = 1 Point" system, as opposed to the $5 = 2. Though given the reported devaluing of points the actual benefit seems a bit murky.

No wrong. $80,000 if you didn't use a CC that earned flybuys or received bonus points. Seeing the flybuys site is down, from memory it was 16,000 points return with Qantas and less with Virgin. For around 80,000 points you could get to somewhere like Fiji or Noumea.

They've done this before. When FlyBuys was first introduced you received 1 point for each $20 of expediture. Mind you, flights could be got for just 550 points. After the change, they multplied everything by 20, so the flights became (from) 11,000 points for SYD-MEL.

Interesting that Telstra is rejoining, although it seems to in a limited form:

Telstra Pre-Paid customers who are flybuys members can enjoy:

  • Telstra Pre-Paid Points: Until 22 July 2012, earn nine points for every $1 spent on your Telstra Pre-Paid Recharge at Coles Supermarkets, BI-LO, Target, Kmart and Coles Express. From 23 July 2012, customers will earn three points for every $1 spent.
  • Telstra Pre-Paid Bonus Points: Buy a $30 Telstra Pre-Paid recharge voucher at a Coles Supermarket checkout and pick up a free Telstra $2 SIM Starter Kit. Customers will also earn 1,000 flybuys bonus points upon activating the SIM card by 22 July 2012.
  • An exclusive mobile offer: Customers can purchase the LG Optimus Spirit Android smartphone for half price ($49.50), plus earn an extra 1,000 flybuys bonus points upon activating the included SIM card by 22 July 2012.

Also interesting to note that if you take out Coles Insurance you earn additional points per dollar spend at Coles!

Special offers | Coles Insurance

I have existing Car Insurance with them and they easily had the lowest premium for me comparing to all the brands. This is an extra incentive!

Looks I like I will be in front in terms of points and overall value for points, however will the current points I do have be devalued as a result of this "revamp".

My understanding is that as part of the rollover into the new scheme, your points will be multplied by 1.6, so it should work out the same.

Seems redemptions are changing from 1250 points for a $10 voucher, to 2000 points for a $10 voucher. So, it should all work out.

Yes any existing points will be "enhanced" but in this case it's a good enhancement...

2000 points for a $10 voucher. That's hilarious!!!

2000 Everyday rewards points are worth a minimum of $90 to me

FAIL Flybuys - AGAIN

If it was one Velocity point per $1 spent, I would switch ALL my shopping to Coles/Wesfarmers etc......

Does this mean all current points no longer expire (as long as there is some activity)?

I've never had a fly buys card and the new offering is totally non-inviting.

My sister, however, works for Coles and is keen about it as employees get more points.. and bright blue shirts to promote the roll out.

I haven't received my new pack yet. I'll be reading the terms and conditions carefully before I activate my new flybuys card. My gut instinct is that EDR/QFF points are still better value for money but I will still be able to make use of the flybuys points I end up with.

Why the hell are they using an INTERNATIONAL actor for the promo ad?
What happened to using local talent?
It definitely is going to cost more points to get the same rewards offered!
