The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

On my recent RTW with SQ J BNE-SIN-LHR/FRA-NYC /SEA-SIN-BNE the J cabins between BNE/SIN were completely full and had been for many months. Unlikely to see much availability in this sector. The other sectors were also very full but some available seats. I wonder if this holds true for Suites availability as SQ seems to be doing well at selling the seats for commercial revenue. As always with redemptions be flexible and be prepared to travel off the most popular routes/times.

I've been booked on SQ Amsterdam - Sydney in Q (Economy Lite 🤦‍♂️) straight through with only a 90 min layover in Changi... although I have star alliance gold (with Aeroplan not Krisflyer) have I read it correctly that I have zero eligibility/chance of a paid upgrade to PE, even at check-in?

Yup, no upgrading with miles on economy lite fares, Star Alliance Gold won't make a difference.

Damn, that sucks. More than happy to pay the fare difference in cash not miles … I wonder if that’ll work… damn the agent who booked it 🙁 I can’t complain really, I didn’t pay.

I need to book a SIN - SYD rewards flight with VFF, but only option forced stopver, which is SIN - BNE - MEL.

Theres a 2hr layover in BNE, is it possible to disembark and skip the MEL leg, and book a separate BNE - SYD booking without issue?

Will you be travelling HLO? Google "singapore airlines skiplagging" for data points.

Why would it need to be HLO? Need to collect luggage at BNE anyway. Also SQ wouldn’t care, they didn’t issue the ticket. Really the question is about VFF skiplagging not SQ skip lagging.

Generally wouldn’t expect it to be an issue transferring from international to domestic, especially going to a different carrier. I am surprised SIN-BNE alone isn’t available though.

Good point, I hadn't clocked the I-D transit, but it would be possible then.

Wouldn't it be SQ's conditions of carriage in effect? (where it is likely a violation - I haven't checked)

Looks like I'll need to cancel a rapidly upcoming flight in suites 😞 which was made with expiring KF Miles... can I modify the booking and save the points, or will that still lose those which should have expired??

You can modify the date (within the ticket's validity which is booking date + 1 year), as long as there's availability on the new date (and same itinerary).

There's no magic bullet or secret formula which will tell you which dates/routes have the best availability. You just need to do your own searches and when you find a route you like with availability, grab it.

Obviously the school holidays will generally give the least availability ... on the other hand (flying solo) I've had success finding First Class "Saver" awards during the school holidays. So you never know what'll turn up.

With the number of points you have, you could also consider their new "Access" awards -- costs more points (to the extent that they're not great value-for-points), but there's more availability.

You could also use seats.aero to do the search for you (which I'd recommend if you're time poor).

But really it's not rocket science. Look to see what's available. If there are no Saver awards, consider Advantage. If there's no Advantage, consider Access. Sooner or later you'll find something that suits you.

Thanks! Just to add to the mix. I usually look for saver , and advantage sometimes as a last resort mainly form shorter trips,
I did see the new "access" flights and nearly fell.off my chair!., which we're always almost available

Ill definitely keep looking, I just hoped thay maybe certain routes were less popular or even last minute (ie 1month) were common.
Kind of recall melb to Singapore being quite available, but my recent searches have shown other wise

I don't know where you are based but I find that BNE-FRA and BNE-CDG often have reasonable availability in J. You have missed the peak season but there are some saver seats to FRA from August; looking for 3 seats you would have to go later (around Oct/Nov). ADL-FRA is another option worth looking at.

I live in Melbourne too and over the past few years I've had success with KrisFlyer redemptions to or from CDG, IST (twice), MAN and AMS (all in Business class). Brussels is a good option as well, and remember that Singapore Airlines flies into Gatwick (LGW) as well as Heathrow.

I have also had success with SQ over the past years but their availability has tightened now and without PPS you won’t see J saver availability out of Melbourne - although there are waitlist options.
