The great SC chase

Well isn't this turning into an "us" (in the know) vs "them"(want to be in the know) situation.......
"(Want to be in the know)"? Is that not why you came to AFF - to find out ways to improve your travel circumstance?

In any case; the answer to the 'puzzle' was relatively easily discernible and is there (still) for anyone looking at the site to see.

This has been a "storm in a teacup" ... :(

It is precisely why I joined AFF, and for the most part, it has delivered.

It seems that most members, including senior ones, aren't working out this riddle, so what hope does a newbie have? I may be missing the bleeding obvious, but I, along with several others, are missing it nonetheless.

I'd have to agree. I think the moderators have been very generous in respect of this thread.

FWIW I think this has been a brilliant challenge set by the OP and I'm grateful that he posted it. I've spent many years making ineffective use of my SQ KF miles, and having recently come to QFF and OW I have been fascinated by the innumerable ways people have come up with to earn and retain status. The challenge as posted was a good way to say "guys, look what's possible" and for us to figure out the details. If serendipity leads someone to improve on that (not sure that's likely but you never know) then I'm sure someone would say so. The importance of keeping newbies like me interested and continually expanding on what we know can only improve the quality of our discussions over time, so thanks OP - love your work!

+1 I forgot about this thread until the recent controversy and am now beavering away on the various threads and posts that I find. I am due to have a relatively lean period next year due to some major work commitments here and am trying to work out a couple of days touring on a J SYD-JFK rtn on QF in June. I've always wanted visit Puerto Rico ;)

I agree that this is a storm in a teacup. :(

Having said that I do believe that it has highlighted that with some great deals and/or status runs are available and has given the basis of how to find them. It is quite possible that others have found different SC runs that aren't published here either.

One major benifit of Puerto Rico when compared to other Caribbean destinations is that as a 'protectorate' of the USA, there's no customs/immigration to undertake on arrival back into MIA (or JFK/PHL/WAS etc.). It's just a USA domestic flight.

But if you're not willing to share, I dont see the point in posting about something that amounts to nothing.

Of course it is and like I said, I totally understand where the OP is coming from. But if the intention is not to share the knowledge, I dont see the point in posting/boasting about it either.

My full belief is the intention was to actually share the knowledge; just make a bit of a game with it.

The OP is a generous person as well as being a nice guy (I have no doubt those who know him would agree) and really cannot understand the fuss.
I know the OP very well, having met him several times over the years, and he is one of the most generous persons on this forums. His OP routing can be figured out without too much difficulty. At the last OzFest in Darwin, the OP ran a a small tutorial about how to find / book these fares....the only condition was that you had to be present in person. Over the years, I have learnt quite a few tips by meeting AFFers in person (haven't yet met one that I disliked immensly;)), and you'll be surprised what they are prepared to share in person as opposed to posting online.

Well, I must thank you kpc for your very kind comments. Isn't the internet an interesting place. There are so many wonderful positive people, and that comes through in the tone they seem to convey through their written word.
Now as some of our friends know, I sometimes don't get much of a chance to keep up with what is happening on this board and foxtrot tango also.
So, I am very heartened to see so many positive sentiments here. Thanks to fresherbill, budley, sam h, mal, JohnK, kpc, serfty, straitman, and all the other posters whom I have failed to mention.

I note that many seem to enjoyed the challenge in the 1st post, and many have solved the travel possibility.

I really enjoy meeting fellow travellers in person when I can, as do many others - it is always a great chance to catch up and share our experiences. Like at OZFEST in Darwin for example. I was so sorry I could not attend AFF in CBR this year.

As stated above, those in DRW were able to have a little chat about some of our travel experiences.

Well, I am sad to report, that two of the search tools we discussed have unfortunately changed dramatically last weekend. A number of us have written to the major search page we used till last weekend. They say they will bring the *up search function back in the future. The second , now bought by google, continued giving access to the original search page, which many found very useful. Google pulled it last weekend, never to be returned. So I know for myself, search has become a lot more difficult for the ordinary traveller.

So, back to the Great SC Chase.
I have to acknowledge the wonderful clues for other chases being put up in another thread - well done to those posters.

1. As we know AA has declared bankruptcy recently . Who knows how that will affect routing/fare structures etc in the future. Now I can report that the fare alluded to in the opening post seems to still be intact. And 9 legs may be possible, but schedule changes already mean that 1 leg on the 777 is no longer there.

2. At a similar time, I could have said to you - So Just You go to the Biggest Little City in the World. Similar fare, similar routing rules. Sadly I have to report that price seems to have jumped about $200 since the middle of the year. However, it may still suit some.

3. I know many friends like a little business class trip closer to home in the Great SC chase. It is discussed extensively here. Something about Indian bread or something. And save a few hundred by buying the return leg from the swaying palms. I have only ever seen the routing discussed where the great capital of Queensland is the origin or destination. Well did you know that I have found only one other place in OZ where a similar fare is offered. And, it may suit those who are trying to get to a certain airfield beside Castle Hill to start some of the wonderful Jasa's that our very generous moderator markis10 has so often kindly told us about.

That alternative also has swaying palms, as well, just to confuse my self a little more.

I just checked some prices this morning, and it offers 40sc more for a $200 approx higher fare. If you follow the sound advice to buy your return ticket under the swaying palms EF seems to show it around US$139 higher.

So I hope most of you enjoy this post as you seem to have the first.

I want to wish all parents whom have children receiving school leaving results at the moment all the best. Well done for getting the grateful little darlings to this stage of life.

And to all my travel friends, a very safe and happy Christmas to you and to your loved ones. Best wishes. John.

I just found a $377 higher fare for 100SC more plus QFF points around 3-4000 more - All booked via Q OZ site for the run.
Depending on dates a lower fare could be had, but I did not check the SC etc. that could be earned with the routing.

Would not of thought to check for a different departure point if not for your post, so thanks , very much appreciated.

Preserving the somewhat cryptic (but definitely decipherable) nature of this thread, here's a fare that I found recently. I don't know if it's actually new or not, but it's certainly new to me.

The fare is very similar to another fare in this thread, with similar routing rules. Although the destination is the same, the origin is different, by 236 miles. Without too much effort, I can get a routing earning 360 SCs for around AU$500. I suspect that talented travel agents might be able to do better, but that's what I've found with ExpertFlyer, and confirmed that it's bookable on the AA website.

Happy hunting!

Thanks all. Great info. My girlfriend lives in Barbados, so I have been flying over once a year for the last 3 years. First few times I would book direct and get overcharged and miss out on sc. I just got back to oz and did the instant upgrade and now gold. I didn't work out this route however Next year going for plat as I'm flying over mel-lax in business. So thanks all one again as I read the forum to get a few tips on flights.

JohnSydney2000, since we had a finale drink together in the J Lounge the eve of ATA removal, I really need your help urgently so I can quickly enhance my PSR ratio so that I can be targetted for the next round of Double SC's promo :D ;)

For the uneducated what is PSR ratio? I too didnt rec'd the double SC email

I am pretty new to AFF but those I have met are great guys.

The knoledge from the AFF is worth its weight in gold. JASA/FASA is a simple example.

I need to learn more to work out the riddles etc and some of the lingo, but I always have a choice to PM and just ask?

Happy days AFF

Do not know if this has been mentioned already but there are great fares currently 720 SCs ex LAX to SJU return through NYC in F by selecting the routing with the most stops for only about 830 USD - 2 days flights with a nights stop in SJU.
I have seen this fare on special for 699 USD for 720 SCs. I am soon to start a similar route 699 USD for 630SCs but will likely make it a AA platinum challenge as the one flight covers the 10,000 EQP taking into account the F bonus.

Yes, those routes have been mentioned but are generally mentioned cryptically so the routes don’t disappear too fast, and to make things fun ;)

what Sam posted ... of course, that's one-way, note they can be much less than that 830 ...
