I'm heading back to AU in a couple of weeks and decided to give EK F a whirl BKK-SYD, as probably won't get the chance again anytime soon.

Have chosen my seat (1A), but if there's a better seat I should choose - let me know, it's pretty empty right now; had the entire cabin to choose from. Booked the Chauffeur as well, hopefully no problems finding my place, but I'm sure they'll contact me if any problems there.

Menu from this month looks rather good, and they have JWB on board, so I'll be very happy with that (of course I'll try their other whiskeys as well!!)

Any tips from those of you who have flown this route in F? I'm actually really looking forward to it, and hopefully the experience is a hell of a lot better than what was on offer in Y (on the 380) last year, where the crew seemed to be invisible and not at all interested. (A short, relatively empty flight, maybe they were chilling out.;))

Definitely the SYD QF F Lounge.
Mmmm, but the flight leaves at 0600, presumably boarding opens a half hour before that - what time does checkin open, the lounges open, and it's quite a hike from the QF lounge to the EK gates.

I don't want to arrive at the QF lounge and have them say, you'd best leave now, buddy.

I have seen a trip review where the blogger did receive, but then others where they didn't. https://www.milevalue.com/emirates-a380-first-class-auckland-to-sydney-chauffeur-service/

The website isn't very clear it says under Auckland:

Qantas codeshare flights operated by Emirates (with a QF flight number) between Asia and Australia/New Zealand don't offer Chauffeur-drive. If you'd like Chauffeur-drive, you must be booked on an Emirates operated flight (with an EK flight number).

i don't believe you do.

We're doing it in March, can't wait! Our first first class experience! :p

They used to offer it but not anymore. I got one both ways back in 2012 but not in 2014.
The notes section also specify the above:
"Itineraries which are exclusively between New Zealand and Australia are not eligible for Chauffeur-drive. All other itineraries on Emirates-operated flights are eligible, including Business Class itineraries which involve a stopover in Australia"
If you are connecting on an onward flight out of AUS then you are eligible for one.

The question is put, "What to Expect."
Answer: INCONSISTANCY.

SWMBO and I decided to spend a week in Auckland. I purchased (Qantas points) First Class return flights with Emirates. The service SYD to AUK was exceptional. We could not have been looked after better. We were offered showers, photo's were taken by the crew and given to us in folders with little notes, the champagne was free flowing, we were treated like royalty. In fact I commented to SWMBO that the service was that good that we decided that we would purchase (cash) next year's flights to and from Europe on Emirates. We have traveled First on Qantas and BA and this was hands down a better experience. I was that impressed that when I arrived in Auckland I forwarded our complimentary remarks through the Emirates website.

The return flight could not have been worse. Before takeoff our meal orders were taken, at that point I indicated that I would like to have a drink with my meal and asked for the syrah. I told the attendant that I would like a port after the meal and was told that he would offer those types of drinks after the meal. Shortly after takeoff a flight attendant pulled my wife's tray out and placed a linen tablecloth on it. She was left with this set table without being offered a refreshment. My table was left stowed. The small basket that was taken away during takeoff was replaced, however my wife's was never replaced. 40 minutes after takeoff we had still not been offered a drink and although we thought it was unusual I thought the flight attendants must have been busy getting the meals ready. I didn't want to bother them while they were doing that so I walked back to the galley only to find two of them sitting down, two of them standing and they were all talking to each other. I asked for a drink for both my wife and I which we received.

I wasn't offered a drink with my meal other than the glass of water that came with it, nor did I receive the glass of Syrah that I had ordered. I waited sometime before commencing my meal as I wanted to enjoy the wine with my meal. My meal went cold before I finally decided to press the call button. The attendant came quickly and I explained that I was hoping to have my wine with my meal. She told me that they were opening the bottles and that the drink would arrive shortly. The wine never came and I ate my now cold meal. Sometime after finishing my meal, the same flight attendant that I had asked about my wine removed the plates etc. and gave me my dessert. there was no offer of the Port that I had been told would be offered, no mention of the syrah that she did not give me and both my wife's and my empty champagne flutes were ignored.

I eventually complained. The senior flight attendant spoke with me and apologised. He asked if I wanted the syrah now or a glass of Port. I told him it was too late as I wanted to have them with my meal. He offered a bottle of the syrah which I eventually agreed to take. The flight attendant that failed to provide the wine also spoke with me and told me that there had been a communication problem at their end. I rarely complain and generally try to avoid conflict. I felt uncomfortable and embarrassed complaining, but felt very strongly that we had been cheated out of the First Class experience.

As I had complimented the first crew, I felt the need to bring this poor experience to Emirates attention and emailed them a complaint worded almost exactly as above. I was fobbed off to Qantas (as they had issued the tickets) who attempted to summarise the complain) it was clear they hadn't properly read the complaint and that was the end of that.

In summary, I feel that Emirates First Class is hit and miss.

Flew AKL -MEL F last week & loved it. Service was very attentive, cabin crew very friendly and happy to chat (or disappear when we were talking) Received pajamas & amenity kits as souvineers when they heard it was our anniversary holiday.

Only minor issue was only J menus were loaded (just the menus, F food & drink were loaded), so they had to read additional entree options, and we had to ask what spirits they stocked. They did have the F wine menu: the Shiraz & port were sublime!

Experience at AKL airport was underwhelming, lounge was quite crowded.

Would definitely do it again

I downloaded all the menus the other day. Not guaranteed of course but they don't seem to have changed since last time. Will be soaking up F on Mel-Sin in around 3 weeks. An award flight so very very nice. Will also be showering and trying the Paradis :p

Fabulous! My only complaint was a tail wind which saw us land 25 mins early, lol. The shower was something else, totally unnecessary on such a short flight, but I had to try it!!

enjoy, I'm jealous!

I hate it when the land ahead of time

Yes - I did your sector 2 years ago and had to try the shower. I was the only one who did and they were a bit unsure as to whether I could. No amenity pack either.

Pretty poor really. My experience with EK customer service when I had a complaint was exactly the same as yours.

What a shame. When you fly first you just expect it to be perfect, or close too it, which in my experience with EK it always has been over 12 sectors or so. Sounds like the crew should not be working in any cabin let alone F. You did the right thing by complaining but you shouldn't expect to have too.

I felt the same way about the J product , CHC - SYD.
Very poor service, and underwhelming on other levels. It took four attempts to get a glass of wine with my meal. I gave up on the port after my first (failed) attempt.
The QF 737 may not be as flash, but the service seems to be consistent.

Our flight is on 5th April - the day before. Missed you by 'that' much. Courtesy of the DSC I'll also be Platinum by then as well as the F ticket.

Been reading all these with interest - have got my trip from ADL DXB DXB LHR in F this week. Looking forward to the shower on the A380 and trying caviar. Will post some pictures

Expect excellence. There's about a million blog posts and videos. Everyone seems to love it. As did I.

The screen is huge and a long way away. The best way to control it is through the tablet. Best to play around with it and get used to how it works, before you are isolated from the screen by a meal service or a snooze.

The chair has various settings. For meal times, you can move it forward or back while remaining upright.

My wife and I had two middle "suites" so we could enjoy the experience together. But it's unlikely you'll have a full cabin - you can swap around for takeoff and landing if - as I do - you like to fly with your head out of the window for the view.

Carry-on bags go at the front of your "suite" - there's no overhead lockers. There's a couple of hangers hidden behind the entertainment screen for your jacket or other clothes if you choose the pyjamas.

I asked for a wee dram of the good Scotch - well, it's all good - and they gave me about half a tumbler full. I could have drowned in it,

The bar is open to First passengers, and if you want some of the better drops, they will fetch it from the front. They know who the First passengers are.

Have fun!
