The dreaded happened... I became one of those "urgently paging failed to board passengers"

Wonder if an airline can have a flight delayed, but not tell anyone, except pax when its ready to go, so as not to be counted as a delayed flight in the stats ...

It's not something I've experienced before but I did wonder if that was what they were doing. every time we asked they just said 'soon'. Which turned out to be about an hour as they were waiting for crew to fly in.
