The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes.

You should be eligible for original routing credit (ORC) to get status credits (including DSC's) as well as a refund of any points used for the upgrade. Be sure to email [email protected] and explain the issue - specifically use the terms original routing credit . You won't get other compensation for the lack of the upgrade other than a refund of the points.
Why would the poster be eligible for the status credits ? Really just curious . :)
I would have thought as they didn't take the flight they wouldn't be eligible as they werent rerouted, they weren't permitted to fly ?

Well, my reading is they were rerouting because they were erroneously denied boarding (IT issues meant their Vaccination exemption email was lost), and then rebooked onto Emirates presumably because they did eventually find the exemption.

So in the end I think it's still an involuntary rerouting, since the passenger should not have been denied boarding.

Ahh I didn't see that . Thank you

Is there any rhyme or reason to not listing the aircraft type in the booking tool (common example on SYD-MEL below)? Clicking through on the flight number both say 737-800 - is it possible the blank one is going to be upgraded to A330 at some point or is it essentially random?

Odd… What happens when you click on the flight number?

They are most likely leaving their option open, if there is no type of aircraft listed.
Set your assumption (if its an Aust dom QF route, or even VA, that is too long for a Dash8), that it might be most likely the 737, or they might put an Alliance E190, or the QFlink717 or something else in.
Who knows for sure, no one we could ask anymore.
Or they might keep the option open to not fly the route on that day.
For now, I would not dare do a day status run with QF, even if its the mid morning ADL - MEL and afternoon MEL - ADL for the time being.

Actually it's not too long for a DH8 at all. In fact during the worst times of the covid lockdowns a sole DH8 was doing SYD-MEL iirc.

Actually again it's probably just a display issue. the type (even if it is not set) would be in the timetime, and could be looked up via a site like expertflyer, or other method (for example, google flights or other non-QF source may display the scheduled type).

I do agree it's most likely a 737 though. 717's are rare on the trunk route (but do happen) but usually have QF1500-1800 flight numbers as operated by eastern, nat jet systems etc).

in the good old days the aircraft type of "EQV" was used for "Equipment Varies" - mostly in the US and other locations wherea particular flight may have ... well.. varying equipment. I don't recall QF ever doing this, and I've not seen this moniker in quite some time.

I loathe front row on domestic flights due to need to put hand bag in overhead bin and no where to hang tablet so i specifically always pre-select 2C or 2D at time of booking (in this case in March 2022). I checked in last night, 2D assigned as expected, it was still 2D when i dropped my bag and when i entered the lounge. However upon boarding app suddenly said i was in 1A (yuck - double wammy of window, my profile specifies aisle and row A).

I asked FA why i was moved from my booked seat and she said i could take it anyway. Just before door closes a couple board and FA sends husband to my now abandoned 1A seat, wife glares at me as she takes 2F. Caught a glimpse of her BP, bronze.

So rude to move a gold (almost Platinum) without asking because a NB didnt plan ahead and book seats together.

Seats should not change after check in unless an upgrade comes through or they ask if willing to move. Thankfully FA was lovely (to me).

Of course, you didn't see his boarding pass. Could have been CL. FA definitely bent the rules as you're meant to be in the seat shown on the BP, at least for take-off and landing.

Doubtful, if he was CL or P1 or WP then i doubt FA would have let me move, she looked at the manifest, also jumped on the phone, so likely had me officially moved back to my booked seat. My guess is these 2 were last minute bid upgrades.

It was WRONG to change my pre-selected seat (when i booked it the whole cabin was free), if anything they should have asked for volunteers (there are 4 solo travellers in J, maybe the ones in 1A, 3D or 3F may have agreed to move).

The problem is, as bronze they would have only had access to row 3. If this was already taken they wouldn't have had an opportunity to select two seats together. I presume there was someone in 1C. So at check-in there probably weren't two J seats together.

In terms of checking with you first, that's probably a little tricky. I totally understand your frustration but I suspect QF thought they were doing you a favour by moving you to row 1.

I think the solution to this problem is QF need to open up seat selection in the 737 J cabin to all seats. Make it a first come, first choice system.

Perhaps (although definitely a downgrade), still could have paged me to ask, they knew i was in the lounge. Being a couple doesn't give you automatic right to sit together, if that is important then select seats together at time of booking. And if you book last minute, or fail to check in as soon as it opens then you get what is left. I shouldnt be penalised for someone elses disorganisation.

T-80 but still could be limited options at that point.

There is no proof they were disorganised though. How do you know they booked last minute and didn't check-in as soon as it opened? As mentioned at time of booking seats in row three taken. At time of check-in row 1 and 2 no longer have two free seats.

Most flyers wouldn't have a clue about this. Still just as easily no two free seats together.

Again, I blame QF for not just opening the entire 737 J cabin too all J pax at time of booking.

FA had a chat during meal service and confirmed I was moved just before boarding commenced due to the couple being the successful bidders for upgrade.

Apparently as highest status solo traveller they thought were doing a favour but she understood seeing im using the tablet holder why row 2 or 3 is always preferable.

In future seems need to monitor boarding pass to ensure it sticks. If paper boarding passes were still a thing would be harder to pull this crop.

I agree entirely with your rationale and choice of seat and glad it worked out, but you seemed to have been lucky in the FA not asking you to take seat on (?paper) BP (a call notwithstanding) AND presumably the gent had a BP with 2D on it.

Did he do the "Excuse me, I think you are in my seat" ? If not, then it definitely sounds like someone arranged a favour which was undone when you objected.

BTW, did you have a paper BP, or just the app? If you had a paper BP sating 2D I wonder if they would have tried it on? EDIT: I see the answer in post above :). Paper BPs are STILL always a thing for me!!
