The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

it’s not due vaccine hesitancy in the regions
There are other factors at play.
Regional and remote parts of the country don't have pharmacies and Drs dotted around the place
I know of many friends in regional Jindabyne who had to drive 2 hours there and 2hrs back to be jabbed and repeat = 8hrs total, and waiting 4-6 hours to be Covid swabbed.

Its a reflection of the disparity between city and country re medical access.
Could they have pre-empted this?. Certainly. Its not as though the medical access disparity was unknown until now.

Worse than that, November 1 according to the deputy this morning on radio
This really is annoying, I had something booked starting the 31st so one day too early. But on the upside I can now just bypass spending within Australia and go overseas from the 1st.

Does seam strange I will be allowed to go overseas the same day I can go 15 mins down the road the Newcastle area. I gather we should have known when they offered something if we got vaccinated they would change it.

So sorry anti vaxxers

Supreme Court vaccine mandate challenges tossed out

The NSW Supreme Court has thrown out two cases challenging mandatory vaccinations for essential workers.

A group of essential workers had been arguing in court that Health Minister Brad Hazzard’s orders were an attempt to remove personal choice from the vaccination debate.

Byron vaccination figure shows why NSW delayed re-opening regional travel

Just 228 second doses are being administered every day in the Byron local government area — meaning it will take almost a month to get 70 per cent of the population fully vaccinated.
Data analyst Anthony Macali, founder of covidlive.com.au crunched the numbers for news.com.au and found an average of 228 second doses a day were being administered in the LGA to people aged over 15 years old.

NSW’s re-opening roadmap is based on vaccination rates for those aged 16 years and over, so forecasts may vary slightly but rough calculations show it could take until November 10 for 70 per cent of residents in the area to be fully vaccinated.

The Byron LGA will not hit this until late November, at the earliest.

I had to open my mediicare app on my tablet today to show an old lady at the hairdressers the difference between the immunisation history record and the actual covid certificate, as she was trying to enter without either. Her GP had printed her some proprietary statement of vacicnations (4 pages worth) rather than helping her print out the official cert, I told her to go to medicare office to get them to pront if she didnt have a relative who could help her out (no mobile).

To my surpise flu vax which was given in April has finally show up, over 6 months after the fact! Still wondering why the delay, and why none of the other flu vaxes or travel vaxes show up.

In great news, NSW officially hit 80% double vaxed today (will be in the numbers released tomorrow)

The Byron LGA will not hit this until late November, at the earliest
.
However federal data shows Northern Rivers has a higher vaccination rate than its immediate northern neighbour, the Gold Coast.

It's absolute rubbish. Byron LGA has a first jab rate of 75.7% which is higher than the QLD average. They were just late starters, so the current second jab rate is lagging to catch up. Assuming most people got Pfizer/Moderna, they'll be above 70% DD within 3 weeks or so. Likely before Queensland.

We've already shown how inaccurate it is to forecast vaccination dates by second jab rate alone - until they get closer to the target.

My very non-scientific calculation is that on a regular day the NSW double dose percentage goes up at least 1.4%. Weekends are less so if we give Sat/Sun a total of a 1% rise and then got back to 1.4 we hut 80% on Saturday 16/10
Well looks like my non-scientific method was correct. Where do I sign up to be an expert talking head with the media 😂

I'm guessing the doc can't access her mygov?

He could have helped her use the internet to acces my gov or advised her to go to medicare rather than print something off that is not fit for purpose.

covid live is estimating 5 days for VIC 90% first dose and 70% fully vaccinated for 16+. I think the first dose date may slip and we do have weekend numbers to be released over the next few days. In any case VIC is getting very close to some very major milestones.

It will be interesting to see the LGA vaccination rates on Monday. Every LGA in VIC should be past 50% by then and most are well past that mark.

For 16+ Vic should hit about 66.6% second dose and 88.6% first dose by end of Sunday (reported the next day). So sometime during Weds should pass the 70% second dose mark. 90% first dose may take till sometime Thursday.

Yes it will be interesting to see how much each LGA has jumped.

However the 8 LGA's generating over half of Victoria's cases and two thirds of Greater Melbourne's cases may still take another fortnight from this Monday to reach the 70 % second dose level.

In Monday's figures there may only be half a dozen or so (a minority) of Greater Melbourne's LGA's that will be at 70% or more second dose. Whereas the second dose rate is much higher in the regions, and only 5 or so (a minority) are not likely to be above 70%

Loving the absolute desperation up here in AP’s press conference…

‘THIS IS YOUR ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE TO GET VACCINATED’

Just set an opening date already and that will drive the lazy laggards to get jabbed. It’s really not that hard!

EDIT: They did, finally. Probably helped out our CHO exiting in a few days ❤️

Maybe some of our esteemed AFFers could run for high office. They seem to know a lot about how certain States should be run in COVID times. 🤔

Weekly LGA numbers are out.

Hume has gone past 90% first dose (90.5%).
Whittlesea is at 86.8%
Casey is at 92.9%
Brimbank is at 86.3%
Wyndham is > 95%.

As for second doses.
Hume is at 58.2%
Whittlesea is at 58.6%
Casey is at 63.9%
Brimbank is at 58.6%
Wyndham is at 68.8%

So first doses are getting to very good levels in LGAs of concern in VIC, but second dose levels are still considerably below the state average in some LGAs. Still there has been some very good progress. Hume was at 48.4% last week. That's a big jump up to 58.2% and with the first dose levels, they should continue to make good progress for second doses in coming weeks.

By the time Vic opens up at 11.59PM Thursday if vaccinations are about 2/3 (ie this is for 4 week days including Thursday) of the increase over the previous week then:
  • In Greater Melbourne
    • Just over half of the LGA will be over 70% second dose.
    • Crucially most of the LGA's with high case numbers will most likely still be under 70%.
      • However by Friday most of these should be quite near 70%. Casey will be either just under or over 70%
    • Sometime mid next week most LGA's should be over 70%.
    • As a region Greater Melbourne will most likely not yet be at an average of 70% second doses.
  • In the regions
    • Latrobe and Mildura will not be over 70% second dose.
    • Only 5 LGA's are not already over 70% second dose.
    • However all other rural LGA's will be well over 70% with many over or approaching 80%.
    • So the regional average for second doses will be well over 70%
