The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

71.08% of 12-15 year-olds in NSW have had their first dose, a higher percentage than the 70.99% of QLD 16+ that have had a first dose. NSW 12-15 year-olds will probably also overtake WA 16+ when today's numbers are released tomorrow as well.

Every age group 40-44 and up has gone past 70% fully vaccinated except 45-49 at 69.1%

The NT is hitting major issues with vaccinating its indigenous population. (For which the fed gov were meant to be responsible)

Anti-vax US based groups infiltrating social media in these communities. The Fed gov needs to step up here and take action against social media for allowing misinformation its criminal. This is a huge problem around the country in remote indigenous communities.

That's a terribly worded comment, since indigenous make up 30% of the total population, and large portions of urban centres including Darwin and Alice Springs. The federal government's responsibility was based on geography, not race.

Those comments referred to areas where NT health had made repeated visits to distribute the vaccine. That's what they were hearing on the ground.

The issue regarding the federal government, for the very remote areas, was they don't have location specifc data so they don't know where the problem areas.

Not everything is the federal governments fault.

*I should have said "Remote indigenous population" to be more specific but:

"At June 2016, 76.6% of the NT’s Aboriginal population lived in remote or very remote areas, down from 79.7% as at June 2011."

Im not saying its the feds govs fault for the vaccine uptake - but they should be taking action against social media and "The Australian Government will be responsible for leading the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people "

While I agree with the theory that not everything is the fed governments fault, if you go out and advertise you are taking responsibility then you should do that. Seems to me its largely been left to the states to do what the feds said they would.

The comments referred to areas that NT government had taken responsibility for, and delivering.

I found your comment "For which the fed gov were meant to be responsible" implied the low take up rate was their fault. The NT government never suggested that. They just wanted more fidelity in the data for the areas that the commonwealth were responsible for.

I think you should read the plan if full before making headline statements like that.

It's clear that it requires cooperation from all levels of government to make it happen.

I also don't want to be held for ransom being not able to leave the country....................................

I was referring to the vaccine rollout in the indigenous population which was the responsibility of the fed gov. The implementation was always going to require collab with state health. The issue is uptake - which i quoted was suffering due to overseas anti vax & faith groups infiltrating social media.

The first line of your post paints a very different message:

Moving on...

Indeed, so don’t go around pretending you are taking responsibility when in reality it’s a shared responsibility and in actuality much of the work ended up being done by the states.

Personally I suspect the minister for announcements was more than happy for people to only read the headline.

That attitude is the problem with all this. Far too much politicisation of the matter, and we see states on both sides of the spectrum, and Australia & NZ on opposite sides of the spectrum, all have the same challenges and issues.

Get over the politics and just get back to vaccinating people.

looks like nsw will hit 80% on saturday.
will it be freedom day 2.0 for nsw on monday?
From what I gather regional travel will not commence for Sydney till 25th giving extra time for vaccinations. Extra capacity for businesses should start though.

Sure, the problem with lack of vaccination of this particular part of the population is because of the politicisation. That’s a new spin on the problem to blame that rather than the more obvious issues.

So stop blaming the politicians for it and address the real issue, which is nothing to do with politics.

You do realise that politicians are responsible for governance not just politics. Hard to believe I know but occasionally politicians just do their jobs without politicising it.

The responsibility is with the individuals. I admit I was eligible very early in the piece, but it did involve me coordinating two days off, driving from the inner city to westmead and spending a good 90 minutes playing the covid theatre game.

There are far too many groups who seems to expect the vaccine to have shown up at their front door on a silver platter with a sandwich next to it (which has actually happened in many jurisdictions, including those within a stone throw of me at Redfern).

At some point, people need to take a bit of responsibility for their own health. I appreciate that the US happy clappers have caused issues, but it’s not a great excuse in my book.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Too many people want to blame everybody else when all it takes is for an individual to get off their cough and get a jab.

We're now seeing this in Queensland, were it looks like they will need to destroy a significant number of Pfizer doses.

Premier’s desperate plea as dip in demand means Pfizer may be dumped

An email from the Brisbane North Primary Health Network (PHN) sent out to GPs this week also revealed about 1300 vials of the Pfizer vaccine, containing an estimated 7800 doses, were headed for the bin unless doctors could get them into arms.

The redistribution of vaccines among GPs is not uncommon in order to reduce waste, but a northside GP said this had only started happening in their area in the last fortnight.

Bookings for a jab at the clinic had also halved from 400 to 500 a week to about 200 to 250.
