The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

It's been six weeks since my second AZ. I plan to have a set of Pfizer/Moderna next year, depending on booster recommendations (Israel has started already) before heading off in July next year. That's the plan anyway and takes AZ recognition out of the equation.

The problem is that there will be preventable deaths caused - yet will this person be held accountable for that? I hope that some of these senior doctors start speaking out - they need to.

No they won’t because preventable deaths have already occurred and the person has been given a free pass, although with an expiry date in November!

They are speaking up in a way by actively ignoring certain ‘advice’ but it’s a bit of a rock and a hard place for them with repercussions - especially those gagged contractually by QLD Health.

Anyway we are doing our part, we are publicising our 9 uni grads who work for us who all went and got AZ off their own back - going to put the message out in QLD as well to try and drive some positive instead of negative news for once up here!

Yup and senior doctors up here have been saying this for months and months now. We have a very stubborn leader in this area (4 months left in their tenure…) who refuses to delegate, is extremely difficult to work with and they’ve been trying to manage around for almost a year now. It’s public knowledge.
Dr Young has just reiterated that she thinks that no-one under 60 should be getting AZ :-(

My fear is that AZ manufactured outside of the UK/EU will not be recognised in some countries. The politics being created by big Pharma around the at cost AZ is disgusting.
It’s the same “recipe” made under licence and monitored. It ridiculous for Australian AZ not to be recognised oversea. Hopefully it will be authorised in other countries soon.

Are going to be double vaccinated with Pfizer for work reasons?

Well, don't forget the Australian government has to apply for it to be registered in other countries. They have not done that. :(

I will be double vaccinated in the UK with AZ, with one dose manufactured in India, and then double vaccinated with Moderna. The plan is that this will allow me to travel as needed.....predominantly for work.

Isn’t it an Astro-Zeneca responsibility to apply for it? Australian government do not own the IP or the data surrounding the quality, efficacy or safety of the vaccine even though manufactured in Australia.

I had heard that it was up to the certifying authority in the specific country, not for the manufacturer as such.

The Premier should sack her, but she won’t. A CHO that is undermining the vaccine rollout is doing enormous damage. If the QLD outbreak gets worse AZ will save lives. There is a lag between vaccination and effective protection so there’s no time to waste in getting vaccinated.

An elderly person in SYD who had only had one dose is the latest death. If the person had had both doses (they had plenty of time to do so) perhaps that person may still be alive.

Seeing there is a travel ban there isn’t a rush for this in the government‘s view one would think. Even once international travel starts to resume the advice will change from a travel ban to a recommendation not to travel, one would think.

The registrations should happen well before Phase B one would think.

I think they’ll want them in place by around the same time as the vaccine passport in October(?), if not before.

They have already been ‘sacked’ in the most PC way possible in this current environment… and are finishing in November. Theres an enormous amount of politics at play around this in QLD, has a been a long time in the works to get rid of this person but it’s arguably off topic, boring and depressing to boot :)

If those were her true words, then frankly her behaviour is nothing short of negligent.
At 35m20s of today’s update on: JY: “I said I didn’t want 18 year olds to have AstraZeneca and I still don’t”.
Reporter “even now?”
JY “even now”.
Reporter “So what age should they get AstraZeneca?”
JY “60. Please, I don’t know how I can be clearer than this. If you are 60 years or older go and get your first dose of AstraZeneca if you haven’t already”.

Yep, heard that. She really dug her heels in

Well, although somewhat misguided it seems, at least she's given consistent advice unlike most of the feds who have flopped around all over the place just to confuse people.

Utter disaster…

Yep… I don’t often agree with the Murdoch press, but perhaps the CM has it right. This has all the underpinnings of an event far worse than what’s happening in Sydney. Say what you want about Gladys, but the NSW Gov has a pretty good track record. Queensland however…

I've mentioned before, I know my first dose was either UK or EU version as Aus hadnt released any back then, and I dont know what my second dose was and there is no way to distinguish what my second dose was.

Queensland is going to be a huge problem in the vaccine rollout. Even with the current problems there is hardly any rush to get people vaccinated, to encourage them to come forward and even consider AZ.
This is part of the larger problem of Queensland Health which has insisted positive cases move from HQ to hospital. It is from these health settings, where infection control seems to be so laughably bad, that the leaks occur (remember the receptionist just outside the Covid ward). Nothing will change with a Howard Springs style quarantine.
Both elements could unleash a disaster on an unvaccinated population - ripe for quick spread.

The politics is, as usual, deflection and blame. No accountability.
Yes QLD will be an issue for sure. The Uni of Melbourne's Vaccine Hesitancy Report Card shows vaccine hesitancy in Queensland at 30% as of 23 July. Perhaps that might shift a bit if the current outbreak gets worse, but honestly, how ridiculuous is it that first Vic, then NSW and maybe now QLD all had to get an outbreak and lockdown before vaccination rates picked up.
