The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

No. I like full disclosure not selective, potentially misleading, disclosure.

When someone asks a question that does not suit your narrative you accuse them of 'conspiracy theories'. Not a good look.

Back to the official Australian Govt site. The TGA disagree with you and cite three serious side effects of AZ.

It clearly itemises three very rare but extemely serious side effects from AZ. It does not lump them together (as you suggest). It does not refer to any deaths from ITP which the ABC subsequently apologised for 'attacking' Ch 9's report of 2 deaths linked to AZ due to ITP - as unfounded, and stated the ABC had confirmed two people had sadly died as Ch 9 reported.

Who knows why the deaths are not shown on this page?

Perhaps it is as they call them 'reports' of effects and not 'cases'? Who knows but it is not full disclosure.

Similarly the weekly Vaccine Operations Centre Weekly Operational Update for 19 July is yet to be released and now so is the July 26th report. Still awaiting an 'official response'.

Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS)

Since the beginning of the vaccine rollout in Australia, a total of five deaths from TTS have been reported out of 6.1 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. All of them were related to a first dose of the vaccine.

This takes the total Australian reports assessed as TTS following the AstraZeneca vaccine to 87 cases (53 confirmed, 34 probable) from approximately 6.1 million vaccine doses.

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)

ITP is difficult to diagnose because, unlike TTS, it does not have unique identifying features if it occurs after vaccination. There is no specific test that confirms ITP, so doctors rely on excluding other causes of thrombocytopenia.

To 18 July 2021, the TGA has received 34 reports of suspected ITP following vaccination. These patients had an extremely low platelet count, and signs of thrombocytopenia including unusual bruising, a nosebleed and/or blood blisters in the mouth. These symptoms occurred in a timeframe that suggested they could be linked to vaccination and no other obvious cause was identified based on the information provided to TGA.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS)

GBS is a rare immune disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks nerve cells. What causes it is not fully understood, but it often follows a viral infection or a bacterial type of gastroenteritis. GBS causes nerve inflammation and can result in pain, numbness, muscle weakness and difficulty walking. In many cases it resolves within months but can sometimes take up to two years.

To 18 July 2021, the TGA has received 61 reports of suspected GBS in people who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine. A possible link between GBS and the AstraZeneca vaccine remains under investigation and we are seeking expert advice on the results of a detailed evaluation.
Sorry but again you are wrong. If a person had died from immune thrombocytopenia it would have been reported in that report. As I said and confirmed by the TGA report you link TTS does have thrombocytpenia as part of the syndrome so people can bleed or have bleeding as a complication of the treatment of TTS as it is based on the use of anticoagulants. This would still be reported as a death from TTS.

In that reply that you have quoted I have already given the link to Pfizer and Moderna as a cause of Immune thrombocytopenia. And here is a report of the Guillain barre syndrome after Pfizer vaccine.

And if you had done a little research into GBS and ITP you would know these are not uncommon side effects of vaccines and with vaccines against various viruses normally also are associated with those viral infections.

Let’s focus on the positives here. Vaccinations are growing, pharmacies have been added, the hate campaign against AZ in the media is lessening. It’s the only way out and it is getting better.

I suggested in mid June that we could reach 40% first jabs by the end of July and 10 to 15% fully vaccinated. (Over 16 population). Even I thought I was being optimistic but we have smashed the fully vaccinated target and should achieve or slightly exceed the first jab target.

So let’s set a target for end August. (Once again over 16 population)

50 to 55% first jabs and 30 to 35% fully vaccinated. Will start to make a difference….

Apologies from QLD for plateauing with our numbers but our soon to be replaced CHO is still very anti-AZ vax which has scared many people up here.

Good to see NSW steadily increasing and VIC too.

WA is plateauing too….

Tomorrow's Front Page on the Canberra Times:

"House vax majority for feds' return" - "Most MPs jabbed before sitting" - "All senior Federal politicians bar five younger MPs have been vaccinated against COVID"

Tomorrow's Front Page of the Hobart Mercury:

"Tassie leads tax charge but we need to lock in second AZ jabs" - "Ahead of the Nation"

And these are the kids who should be used in marketing the vaccine rollout. Clearly intelligent articulate young men but relatable to their generation. I'm wondering, is it the angry mid twenties to mid forties and the numpty 60 plusses who are the failures here?

At around 18 people can feel a bit invincible and like taking a risk. Those in their mid twenties to mid forties could well be harder to convince.

I see mid twenties as the hardest. From mid thirties on a lot would have children and understand protecting yourself protects your children who can’t be vaccinated.

The five younger MP’s should really lead by example and get AZ.

Do we know who these people are?

Malcolm Roberts and Pauline Hanson have said they are unvaccinated and do not plan to be vaccinated.

The others are either booked in for a vaccination or booked in with GP to discuss. They are

Alex Hawke
Terri Butler
Amanda Stoker
Emma McBride
Jono Duniam

Clare O’Neil is on maternity leave and hasn’t been included.

In my experience, it's those who have everything and everyone within the same state (perhaps city) and no significant connections beyond that group, and certainly none overseas.

They are the majority, whether we like it or not. As a result they have little incentive to seek out vaccinations if they don't believe their own health to be a significant enough motivator.

Soon to be replaced.... I can only hope.

I think Queensland is cruising for a disaster, which only luck has seemingly prevented, given the stream of HQ leaks. This will be only worsened by the anti-AZ approach. Some people in my street (mid-60s) are refusing to get AZ because of what the CHO has said about AZ - they think that Covid zero is possible long term.

No need to hope, QLD CHO has been managed out - finishes in November. Slow grind until then though… ;)

In the press conference today the CHO was really urging over 60s to come forward for AZ - too late probably after her hysteria earlier on. And another HQ issue today.

I have removed a whole bunch of posts which are becoming too political and threaten to start spiralling. Please stick to the topic and avoid comments which can be interpreted as political. We don't allow political posts on AFF.

Monday’s figures released yesterday show 50% of 95+ population are fully vaccinated, the first age group to achieve this.

This seems surprisingly low. There can’t be many in this age group, I’d imagine most are in ages care facilities, and they’ve been eligible for about 6 months now.

Those in the general population outside aged care can only get AZ, I think. I have a friend in that age group who has just had a first dose so far of AZ and is due to have the second next month. Also, a lack of familiarity with technology may mean that age group may not have found it easy to get a booking and needed help from family or friends, especially if the individual’s local GP is not part of the rollout.

73.5% first doses for 95+ is the lowest of the 70-74 and older age groups

The guardian seems to be doing a good line in articles talking up the benefits of AZ. There’s another one up since the last one I posted.

No idea what the herald sun is doing but the age deserves the pillory for printing the phrase ‘waiting for the good’ vaccine.
