The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Nice. I'm in 2B, so probably wouldn't even get a walk-in dose.

In a few weeks I'll probably look into my options as to how to get the vaccine. It's a simple equation. If I can't get Pfizer for more than two months or so I can get fully vaccinated sooner even if getting AZ.

FYI those in Melbourne- Showgrounds has heaps of apts and walk ins with a quick turnaround. I just got my shot. In and out in 30 min

Pleased to hear that you got your dose.

Also I note that there were reports late yesterday that Pfizer is also occurring for at least some eligible walk-ins at some hubs now.

Out of interest were you a walk-in Pfizer, or was your's via appointment.

There are a few odd things about the first and second dose data being reported on Covid Live:
1. If you add up the first and second doses these come up well short of the total doses given;
2. The source is listed as WA - but WA isnt providing data for other states.

We need to see official breakdown included on the Health.gov.au reporting.

Adding up the first and second doses you get the same total.

Not when you look at the state level data

Total doses listed as 1,198,685 but breakdown says 940,488 (first) + 145,341 (second) = 1,085,829 - a good 100k missing!

Also - the numbers on the state detail pages should match those on the summary page. I standby my observation that there is something funky with the numbers on the site - there are inconsistencies.

One has to wonder why the Feds have chosen to roll out Vaccinations in Vic Aged and Disability Care so slowly.

And this only after they ramped it up as a month ago it was well below Qld in total numbers let alone pro-rata.

I can get a call to the vaccine line to connect with my phone (Vodafone) but my wife’s phone (Optus) will connect to the menu system, still won’t get me through to an operator as they are all busy but it’s a start.

Is there a particular problem with the service provider used in Vic? Why so far behind NSW and even further behind Qld? Victoria was always going to be at most peril for further outbreaks, and it seems odd that not only was it not prioritised, but it almost seems it was deprioritised?

Vic has a lot of urban sprawl. I imagine with the cold storage requirements that would provide significant logistical challenges with rolling out the Pfizer vaccine.

But are they really that far behind? On ABC news Hunt said Vic aged care is 99% done, but nationally only is 98% done so at least some of the other states mut be less than 99% (and to pull average doen it would need ot be NSW or Qld).

Raw numbers dont tell the whole story because you need to know how many peopel there are in Aged Care and Disability Care faciluties in each state. The progress should be reported against a target.

I get why there is difficulty reporting individual target for GPs vs States because people jave a choice of which one to go to, so they need to give a shared taget. But for Aged Care they should have hard numbers.

Victoria actualy has less urban sprawl than Queensland and NSWL
  • Greater Brisbane is 15,842 km²
  • Greater SYdney is 12,367 km²
  • Greater Melbourne is 9,992 km²

I don't know the reason but they have been way behind until the this month.

Also I suspect if they published how many have had both doses completed in Vic it probably would not compare well. But who knows maybe pro-rata there are just a lot less people in age and disability care in Victoria.

I posted on this a little while back.

My older disabled brother only got his first dose 2 days ago.

MIL not long ago.

Lots of stuffing around in both cases with many moved dates.

This was the status on 17 May. As you can see they have caught up somewhat over the last 10 days. Back then it was way behind Qld, and only 61% of NSW. It was lagging a lot worse prior to then.

You can see how the rate in Vic suddenly increased

1622124424838.png

Whereas the rate in NSW was a lot more even.

And in Qld start off strong and then steadily down.

Also on 27th May Hunt said:

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt defended the government’s aged care vaccination program, saying 97 per cent of homes around Australia had now received at least their first vaccine dose.

So is 98% done all two doses, or is it that 98% done that they have had at least one dose? Rhetorical question.
