The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Only had the one dose, but my Immunisation History now shows my dose before the name change as "AstraZeneca Vaxzevria". If you have had AstraZeneca and your immunisation history and Vaccine Certificate doesn't show the new name I'd suggest re-downloading it.
Thanks for that and indeed the new name is there. Must pass that on.

The certificate in my Apple wallet does not mention which vaccines I had ? Is it supposed to
I have not had second dose yet, so do not yet have the digital certificate available. But can view my vaccine history via MyGov Medicare portal, which shows DTP received in January, Influenza received in May and COVID-19 received this week. In each case it shows the "Band name given". But this is just my Immunisation History Statement and not COVID vaccination certificate.

Yes I can see all of mine on the portal and now I know how to access them on my Cert too. Happy days. I just need to get my name switched around (first and middle initial are incorrect) 😜

We have gone past 55% first dose for 16+.

When today's numbers are released tomorrow we'll go past 60% fully vaccinated for 70+.

We are on track to go past 1/3 fully vaccinated for 16+ when Friday's numbers are released on Saturday. We may reach 50% fully vaccinated for 50+ at the same time.

Every age group 45-49 and up except for 60-64 has gone past 40% fully vaccinated. So excellent progress is being made towards the 80% goal in the most vulnerable age groups.

35-39 is the latest age group to go past 40% for first doses. 30-34 should achieve this either when Sunday's numbers are released on Monday or the day after.

NSW has extended its lead for most first doses for 16+. It has also gone past 1/3 fully vaccinated for 16+, but is behind the territories and TAS on that metric.

NSW is the first state to go past 80% with a first dose for 50+ (but still well behind the ACT which has done over 90%). NSW should go past 50% fully vaccinated for this age group when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

NSW has over 60% fully vaccinated for 70+. QLD is not far behind on 59.93%.

Guardian's estimate where 7-day average is maintained - the flaw in their model is that it doesn't account for 1st dose happening now that will happen in 6 weeks time in Sydney and say 3-12 weeks elsewhere.

While being totally in favour of those who can safely receive the vaccination as quickly as possible, this statement by SA Premier about 12-15 year olds is plain wrong.
"They probably are more adept at social media than many of us of more mature years … and so they’re seeing these stories.

“They don’t want this disease and I think the story of a 15-year-old in NSW passing away was a real warning and alarm for younger people.”

This is referencing the 15 year old who died with Covid but not of Covid but meningitis or perhaps meningoccal virus.

I think a NSW Health spokeperson (ie not the NSW CHO) said the 15 year old was not admitted because of covid and it was not the cause of death. But its not clear whether the 15 year old caught covid before or after falling ill with meningitis.

May be someone medically trained could tell us if its possible for covid to trigger meningitis or not. I think its referred to the coroner, so maybe the coroner will be the final arbiter.

On the other salient point - teens are more likely to be on youtube, instragram and tiktok rather than reading news articles .....

Lots of interesting front pages:

AFR: "Vaccine for the park: NSW all but mandating jabs"

The Daily Telegraph: 'Indigenous stars join jab drive' - 'BROTHERS IN ARMS' - 'Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker will get Covid jabs for the sake of the families and the Indigenous powerhouses are spreading their message. "I want to travel to see my family," Mitchell said.'

There's another one (I think the SMH): "State Plans Tentative Plan for Reopening" trialling freedoms for the fully vaccinated.

I think a NSW Health spokeperson (ie not the NSW CHO)

This is incorrect, Dr Chant did state in the presser that “I can confirm that he died from pneumococcal meningitis”

It has not been stated where he contracted meningitis (which is spread by droplets, so had to be in an unmasked environment) but he worked at a KFC which was a close contact site so likely caught Covid at work.

I guess more Pfizer queue jumping

There are claims a private school in Sydney offered the Pfizer vaccine to staff under 40 despite the jab not being available to younger people in New South Wales unless they reside in the local government “areas of concern”or have another exemption.
It’s the latest private school to come under scrutiny after apparently facilitating people to queue jump in order to receive scarce Pfizer doses.

Abbotsleigh School started offering shots to staff in early August with many getting their second shots this week.

The private girls school, which charges as much as $35,000 per year for students to attend, is based in Wahroonga on the north shore far from the epicentre of the Sydney outbreak.

In the past month, there have been just 24 Covid-19 cases recorded in Abbotsleigh’s local government area (LGA) of Ku-ring-gai, that’s 100 times fewer than in the LGA of coughberland in the city’s west.

.....

As with most private schools, they would have many staff and students travelling there from out of area. Independent private schools dont have catchment areas like public or catholic/community schhols do. I didnt go to school in my LGA, at least 80% of my year lived outside the LGA the school was in, many girls travelling over an hour each way each day.

Gladys actually said on radio earlier this week that you can access the extra Pfizer at Qudos and Olympic Park if you are outside rhe 12 LGAs, especially in neighbouring LGAs, if appointments are available. Its not being promoted heavily but is possible, plus GPs have had discretion for ages. The Polish Pfizer doses have only a short period to be used (a few weeks) as reason it was being sold was because was nearing expiry date.

Whilst there are special pop up sites in LGAs of concern and priority invites/days for workers in those areas including for teachers there for the last month or so, that doesnt preclude other parts of Sydney from being at risk and acessing available doses.

I know kids in Year 12 outside the 12 LGAs who have already had first Pfizer, their parents wanted them fulky vaccinated before HSC as there are kids in the year from the LGAs of concern, as well as staff. Only approx 65% of eligible Year 12 from the LGAs of concern got Pfizered during the week where they had exclusive access at Qudos, so there are many spare doses.

Other private schools vaccinated students(not just yr 12s) back in early June when Pfizer was in low supply and no outbreak. That was queue jumping, but given extra supply and higher availability of Pfizer now in August, not really a drama that some teachers outside the LGAs got a few doses, better than having them expire.

12-15 year-olds will be eligible for Pfizer with bookings to open on September 13. It's expected this will primarily be at GPs.

In other news only 9,000 of the 830,000 appointments released in VIC a few days ago are left.

Edit: Note the bookings open on September 13, but vaccinations commence on September 15

families are more likely to want to go to their GP

You posted GPs are primary channel which is incorrect for Pfizer and misleading, so i clarified state hubs will also vaccinate 12-15s. There is no evidence that teenagers prefer to go to a GP, other vaccinations given to 12yos are given at school i.e rubella, hpv.

Well the PM said "Principally I would see that happening especially through the GP network and that provides the opportunity for family vaccinations."

He didn't say it was the only way it would happen, but he did indicate that GPs is the principal (i.e. main) place he expects kids to get vaccinated.

Perhaps later we'll see a push for vaccination pop-up clinics at schools themselves and that will change, but we'll need a significant increase in supply before that becomes feasible on a large scale.
