The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Hmmm it sounds like it could be that they were so used to supply exceeding demand that they didn't prepare for demand exceeding supply and have now got a mess on their hands.

Im sure fact that they dont book second dose at the same time as the first is a contributing factor.

Everyone I know who has had a dose, has booked their second dose.

Mine was booked as you walked out from the nurse, and the admin person then booked everyone in for their second shot.

Not my experience today. After 15 mins obs...line up and book second dose. I didn't because I already booked dose 2 online but that was the standard set up.

Many of the workers in 1a and 1b are younger males - especially those working in security/cleaning/drivers at HQ, the airport, not to mention at hospitals. Last night as i picked up my takeout from local chinese the owner was saying two of his 21 year old male drivers were already fully vaccinated with Pfizer as their day job is at SYD airport.

You dont have to share the same risk appetite but you cant dispute pulished numbers of confirmed clots in Australia linked indisputably to AZ vaccine.

How utterly pathetic that you resort to insults and name calling because the facts of more adverse clotting reactions doesnt fit your personal narrative. Try contributing to AFF for once rather than just trolling.

People can assess their own risk appetite based on the numbers, sharing facts is never irresponsible.
The number of young males under 30 in 1a and b are really insignificant.
And @trevella has a lot more involvement with things covid than your good self.

On our online service in SA you book the first and second dose at the same time. Very simple and fast process

Is it a mess, or is just that if supply does not increase that they will need to slow down first doses of both AZ and Pfizer and just concentrate more on second doses?

I will go with the latter.

Obviously there has been a surge on the first doses at present.

There should be more AZ that can be freed up. Maybe not with the Pfizer given its scarcity

Thats how it works in NSW too, all online, common sense to not decouple bookings when 2 doses needed.

So there has been a sudden surge in people seeking vaccinations in Victoria.

Capacity expanded easily to suddenly give twice the number of doses. More doses could have been given if available.

If more doses do not keep coming, all that will happen is that they will slow down the number of first doses being given.

So the fact stated by another was not actually a fact then
I've zero interest in debating further with the NSW marketing dept. But yes, I booked doses 1 and 2 online at the same time. In the failed state of Victoria no less. I am keen on hearing more about how those COVID proof ropes in the Sofitel Wentworth are going though.

And that disprovee the fact that no heart problems have been reported in Australia due to Pfizer how?

The CDC has also stated that heart issues reported following Pfizer doses in the USA has not been statistically different to unvaccinated populations.

According to the Vic news tonight there is a potential shortage for 2nd doses of Pfizer... not sure what that means for those who have already had their first dose? At the time of vaccination they said the second dose is required 3-6 weeks after the first. Cannot get through to book anything ATM :(
I booked my second Pfizer yesterday. I used 1800 571 121 and was on hold for 20 minutes. The other 1800 number wouldn’t even connect.

I was not offered a second appointment when making the first. Or at the vaccination hub either. When I asked on the way out, I was told to call up to book my second vaccination.

I have not yet called up to book for my second dose. I am entirely unconcerned if my dose interval becomes 6 weeks instead of 3.

As for the myocarditis. You would be foolish to assume that side effects observed in some parts of the world were exclusive to that population. And equally foolish to ignore the possibilities of knowledge emerging or increasing over time.

But we are talking small numbers. As a male in that age group I am, again, entirely unconcerned. Though I think it pays to be aware of the possibility, so one can recognise symptoms and get them checked out early instead of thinking they will pass with time. I am a male 30 or under after all...

So not at the same time at all, but after first dose is administered. In the gap between booking dose one and getting it, they can easily end up booking in too many more first doses not factoring in yet to be booked second doses.

Not really a problem with AZ as there is still no issue getting same day appointment at GPRCs and long gap between doses but Pfizer is limited in supply and has shorter time between doses, so should always be booked together.

Because there haven't been enough vaccinated to make that a meaningful statement.

And your wild comment is just so far off the mark.

Thanks, I will give that a go tomorrow!

At the Convention Centre in Melbourne on Tuesday I asked, after the 15 mins observation time, where to book the second dose. They said it wasn't possible to do it here and I'd need to call or 'try online when the system is working'.

Edit to add that trying to make an online booking now seems to fail as the page goes in a loop to the Vic covid page, refers you to the Cth eligibility checker, which then takes you back to the Vic covid page :(
