The "Buy LifeMiles" promos thread

Anyone know how long does it take for Avianca to credit the points to my Lifemile account? I bought it a few hours ago and it's still not in my account.
As per the other thread… can be overnight. Follow up if you haven’t heard by 48 hours.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

I've burned Lifemiles for ANA J and BR J for next year, as well as ANA Y - the opportunities do exist, but it takes a bit of time to use them (plus flexibility, which I'm very lucky to possess). 40k miles each, or around $830 with taxes and fees. There's some availability coming back!

Is that one seat or two? I've not looked much at this program, is there much available for two? Or even three?

I also just scored some last minute ANA J flights (for two) so I for one am not giving up on Lifemiles but there are probably easier programs to deal with out there. Not really a space for FF newbies IMO.

LM is a 99% ‘avoid’.

Difficult to find availability, difficult to redeem, cannot get stopovers, long connections don’t show, very little flexibility possible, lots of booking errors even when you think you might have found something.

Unless you are an experienced LM user, I’d avoid. I haven’t purchased any miles for years with them, and they used to be my primary program!

I haven't bought lifemiles for years...still trying to get rid of my last 487K pts, having bought millions in the pasr! My last 2 redemptions with LMs have been Kef-Cph x2 in J on SK, and Ist-Cai-Kgl x2 in J on MS...slowly but surely.... ;)

I’m no points newbie but last minute flexibility or flights for only single people and no flights from PER mean the program value has been lost for me

I would not buy speculatively at all - the purchase seems to process quite quickly, so I would check availability on the LM website and then buy. It mostly mirrors other Star Alliance inventory, so there can be a couple of seats available on one flight (Thai from BKK-MEL/SYD is common enough), although struggles to pick up some routes and one-stops. Basically, use it for point-to-point travel. If there's no availability, then don't purchase LM's.

I have a look now and then and have noticed some TG J awards for 2 beginning to appear. All our flights until August 24 are locked in but hope for some availability towards Christmas 24.

I think that’s very generous to say it mirrors star availability!! :D

It might mirror 1/10th of what is available on other star partners :(

"Mostly", but this is only based on my (very limited) experience, which is mainly focused on ANZ-Asia and vice versa - not much to Europe and nothing to the USA.

Would again stress that anyone looking to use LM's should absolutely check first on the LM website prior to purchasing miles - checking on Seats.aero for Aeroplan/United is not good enough...

No I wouldn't either. Just never looked at what's available there. I remember someone who was on the AFF podcast mentioned it used to be her favourite program. (either Fiona or QFWP, can't remember)

Used to be great! Cheap, and ability to top up for 1.5c per point for the balance of awards. Anything not showing on line was a reasonably simple screen-shot method to get the manual ticketing team to put together your itinerary.

These days there are huge gaps in availability, difficulties reaching the manual ticketing team, and plenty of phantom availability or booking errors.
