Thanks for the in depth clarification. Now even I understand it! Is the SG$25k spend for PPS also over 5 years or annually?

every year:

[h=4]Becoming a Solitaire PPS Club Member[/h]Solitaire PPS Club membership will be yours when you accrue a coughulative PPS Value of S$250,000 within five consecutive years of PPS Club membership.
[h=4]Renewing Your Solitaire PPS Club Membership[/h]To renew your Solitaire PPS Club membership each year, a PPS Value of S$25,000 at the end of the 12-month period of your Solitaire PPS Club membership year is required. The amount in excess of the S$25,000 in PPS Value needed for membership renewal will be recognised as Reserve Value and counted towards your requalification in subsequent years.

every year:

Boo....Hiss!

Oh well, $25k is hell and gone from what I spend annually and $25k would be much better spent on other avenues (like buying points in the best program of the day). Made that concept an easy decision to grapple with! ;)

I can take advantage of three or four different miles buying programs... fares much cheaper than I'll get by paying revenue (or get business/first for the same price as economy), and with all the benefits of status anyway. And I don't need to worry about spending money on 4 segments or minimum $ or miles accrual per year.
Get business/first for the same price as economy?

That is a misleading statement used quite a lot on AFF. Is there any chance you can help me get BNE-SIN return in business/first for $600? Or BNE-BKK return in business/first for $800? Or SYD-HKG return in business/first for $800?

The closest I ever got was with BMI where using points + pay for a return award to Asia in business worked out to ~AUD1,200 which was a great deal.

And yes I do know you can cherry pick routes where economy is ultra expensive or leaving seasonal airfares to the last minute and where buying miles for business/first awards seems like a bargain.

it is very easy for someone with the top SQ status -which is entirely earned on $ spent in SQ/MI J or F - to earn VA Platinum (and still get to gold status on, say, Lufthansa).

I totally understand this in theory, but how does this logistically work with the example of Lufthansa?

I am on my way to SEN (LH Gold) status this year. Any bookings where you provide your Krisflyer number at any point will make the status and award miles credit to Krisflyer, even if the KF number is removed from the booking and the LH FF number is on your boarding pass.

Retroactive crediting is a nightmare with LH, as you then need to get SQ to manually remove the credit from your Krisflyer statement, then post boarding passes to Germany.

I guess what I'm asking is, at what point in the process do you tend to explain to them to credit $ to PPS and miles to another partner? Is it at check in? On booking?

Thanks

Your last sentence hits the nail on the head... in my post I said 'much cheaper than revenue' or 'business/first for the price of economy'. While you can get BNE-SIN for $600 in economy if QF has a sale, at peak times it can be double that. Qantas is currently asking $1600 to Shanghai for almost all of december... LM will come in at ~$1500.

You can go into your Krisflyer account and add your M&M number to your profile (under "My profile" > "My loyalty programmes" > "Partner frequent flyer programmes". That way when you enter LH number to credit to, then it should pick up the associated SQ number.

Otherwise the remaining options are::
1) At check in (or subsequently at lounge if it is operated by SQ and you have access), ask them to enter your Miles & More number to accrue miles to (in the FQTV field) whilst retaining SQ number for accruing PPS dollars.
2) Have the SQ number nowhere near the booking, and retroclaim PPS credit later. Much easier to do this (can be done online) than trying to get SQ to backout KF miles and send to LH.

Whatever the case, your boarding pass should have the LH number printed on it, and only your SQ status ....( I think, will check later).

Awesome thanks for this. I have entered my M&M number in my SQ account so will be good to see if this works for me with my next booking.

The idiot who wrote this was wrong. :) The boarding pass should indicate LH status (eg LH*G or LH*S or LH) and your SQ status (eg. KFEG for gold) and your SQ number. Points will then go to LH and PPS credit to SQ. I just checked with some old BPs.

Very helpful. Thanks dajop!

Sorry - I missed the frequent aussie travel. I guess it comes down to annual domestic status (VA vs QF), vs status or lifetime status which you may or may not need for international depending on your plans?

Even if the domestic travel is enough to give you the 4 sectors to maintain / retain your points activity, your original point still holds true. With the LTS ( or in my case LTQP) under your belt, BFOD ( in J) is where I too would look. Chasing status as you rightly point out , can be an (ultimately) expensive exercise. Once I tick over LTS , I shall be following your lead.
