"Thats why I fly Qantas"

I'm late to the thread, others have covered my thoughts pretty well. Bullet points from me then:

- Member of a big alliance
- Lots of partners who can usually be wangled into ones FF and/or SC plan one way or another
- Generally at least _try_ to do the right thing even if they occassionally fail (for me anyway)
- Recent improvement in service levels. Anyone else noticed? Its spooky, we whinge here and later things improve, or am I just getting lucky and preceiving an improvement where there really isnt one? I feel like I should also be thanking Virgin for this :)
- FF program is easy to navigate - most of my spend is domestic (both flying and not), partners everywhere.
- Reasonable chance to get on a decent aircraft with only a little bit of research

but its not blind loyalty, I'm watching Virgin with some interest.

Because the cancellation rate of my QF flights over 16 years is about 0.5% vs about 20% with DJ.
Maybe I'm lucky with QF and unlucky with DJ but I know others with similar experiences. For peace of mind they just don't fly DJ (or JQ for that matter).

I've got a lot of the same things in common with other people. Part of a big alliance, good business lounges with decent food, the point and status system is pretty good in my book, generally they do pretty much okay by me. Plus one more thing, I love it when I am coming from on an international flight and especially from America, when I step onto the plane and theres an Aussie to greet me with a smile and that wonderful casual easygoing Aussie way. That really tells me that I am going home, I don't even need them to play "I still call Australia home", oh and that's why I do not want to suddenly see John Travolta on the safety video!!

For me, well... they are usually the cost leaders in SIN-SYD non-stop (EK/EY doesn't fly SIN-SYD). There has also been a zero cancellation rate and a zero delay rate for me for the past 12 months. *touch wood*

Having said that, the QF32 with the blown engine was holding up my CX flight on that day... so... a small black mark. ;)

No black mark at all against QANTAS!?,That was squarely the responsibility of Rolls Royce.

Because I can specify my seat preference (forward aisle) as a FF and get it.

Having my first DJ flight in a while this w/e SYD - OOL return. Loved the SYD gold check in process - was given row 3 aisle + seat in middle blocked out - and the security lane with 4 staff just waiting for you to come through. Priority boarding great as has been posted on AFF.

Flight to OOL was late and it seemed from calls in the lounge that so were most DJ flights that morning.

Went to web check in and I am in 3 f tomorrow OOL - SYD with not another aisle seat free for 6 rows back. I could have sworn that there was a aisle / window preference in my velocity profile - but I must have got that confused with QF.
With all the DJ / Velocity hyperbole around, I was surprised that not knowing where your gold ff like to sit isn't part of the system.

I have always considered Qantas to be a step above other airlines, and my experiences thus far have attained and sustained that belief. Perhaps it is by circumstance or co-incidence, but I have found Qantas crew to be more accommodating and kind than others. On the admittedly few occasions that I have had an extended talk to member(s) of the crew, I have always had an interesting conversation about flying, life, the past, present or future.

But I think the overarching reason I fly Qantas above others, as several others have mentioned during this thread, is the fact that whenever I step on, or see a Qantas bird, I think of home.

That was reinforced to me on my first (well, since I was a baby) overseas trip in mid-2009, where I travelled to Europe with my family. For various reasons I hadn't particularly enjoyed my time there (most of it was spent in Greece), but a hastily arranged trip to Frankfurt for a weekend changed that in several ways.

To cut a long story short, upon landing in Frankfurt, I was looking around trying to spot some planes (I had never seen a shiny AA bird) and, after forgetting that FRA was a QF destination, we taxied past 2 red-tailed 747's. It was almost surreal seeing them. It didn't produce a tear in the corner of my eye, but seeing them kind of made me wish I was getting on one - knowing that as soon as I stepped aboard, I would feel like I was back home.

So, that's why I fly Qantas - because wherever I'm going, whatever I'm doing and whenever I'm doing it, I'll feel like I'm home.

I will give kudos where due for QF looking after me today on my HBA Express JASA - arrived late on DJ and missed my CBR-SYD flight, J lounge staff changed my ticket to the next service leaving in 10mins without question or charge.

Points off for the awful congealed porridge shotglass things for breakkie in the lounge tho!

It isn't porridge, off the top of my head I can't remember as someone told me once..

I actually consider the sticky rice and/or sago a delicious breakfast item and usually have two. Being in the QP without it is generally disappointing.

It's not porridge, it's bircher muesli and I love it especially with the caramelised walnuts - mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I normally would enjoy something like this (I love congee) however the quality of this was questionable, the texture was dry and lumpy like it was a day or two old

Well I have to say I really think the on board service is getting far better for QF.

Flew to SYD this morning, and although I got the flashing red light when they scanned my BP alas it was an aircraft change and not an op-up! doh!

Anyway The cabin crew were all welcoming and cheery which is something that i have noticed of late. almost like moral has gotten better? I fell asleep before we took off and woke up after the cart had been through. An attendant saw me wake up and promptly came over and asked if I wanted breakfast. Was impressed about that. The CSM was bright and happy on the PA as well.

It's those little things that give me hope that QF will be heading up again!

Rogue crew? :p

Must agree its improved, on a flight BNE/DRW in J was older FA's, so welcoming and when not serving having a good chat to Pax, well done I say.

Actually I have noticed it for some time now.. it has gradually gotten better and better.

Which is good for commercial passengers, but they still treat staff on staff travel like dog ****!
Which still amazes me, as if we don't look after each other, then who in the company will (which is being said quite a lot lately). ;)
