please write a trip report on that! It looks fun! (and really cheap!)
I rarely see any posts about Scandinavia on AFF so I didn't bother to post about the same basic itinerary I did last year. Also, if possible on AFF, I flew too much last year so I never had the time or energy to post.
So from memory....
PER-BKK return was bog standard A330 Y on Thai. Nice cabins, nice meals, nice crew, and nice blankets. I rarely fly to BKK directly - I usually wonder via SIN or KUL or HKT... flew direct as I was going onto the Artic Circle for work and a conference.
Return leg was originally a morning flight. It was re-scheduled to a red-eye so I elected to stay an extra night in Bangkok and wait for a daytime flight.
BKK-OSL - morning flight on Norwegian 787 in PE. 27 seats I think. About 75% full in PE. Lots of staff travelling to OSL - management and cabin crew for training (not in uniform). Y had a decent load as well. All cabin crew were Thai except one or two Europeans. Mid-flight I took a walk and down at the back it was obvious that one of the European cabin crew members was running a class room for about 8 Thais (in uniform). Premium meals were nicely packaged in a box. Basically they lift the lid off and give you the box. Wine was offered with the meal with a refill if you wanted it. Water was available at any time but otherwise you had to buy anything else - ordered via your touchscreen.
Seat is quite comfortable but recline, etc is unpowered / manual. Touchscreen entertainment with USB power. I worked roughly half the flight and then napped. Bathrooms on the 787 are a little different - the door doesn't concertina but slides in as one piece. The tap is on sensor - habitually I wipe the sink down after I've finished but this just results in getting you hands and the sink wet again!! The big photo-electric windows seem to work quite well. The overhead luggage compartments are big - but if you are short you will struggle to get to the latch handles.
Didn't feel too bad after a 12+ hour flight. OSL immigration was quick so I collected my luggage, got my two jackets out, and then re-checked in for
OSL-TOS - a two hour flight on a 733. Ancient. Managed to book myself into the wrong seat - one row behind the exit. Pretty full and as it was late Northern autumn everyone has lots of jackets, etc. Lots of army cadets on board who strip back down to their thermals. I bought a Coke I think....
TOS-OSL - I managed to correct my return seating whilst in our Tromso office so this flight is definitely exit row. 733. Same vintage. Only 2+2 seats in the exit row. The window seat in the row behind has no seat in front of it so if you like window seats this is the place to be. Late, but then as we had to de-ice I wasn't complaining. Not something you see in PER too often. Express train into town and find my hotel where the conference is also being held. Beats getting up early in the morning and having to travel to a venue when it's zero outside.
OSL-BKK - late again, but this time due to a sick pilot on the proceeding ARN-OSL leg. We get into Bangkok at 9am instead on 7am so no great loss for me. Basically the same flight as BKK-OSL in reverse. 10.5 hours and I passed out from exhaustion and slept most of the way back.
So Perth to Norway in Y and PE return for < AUD 3k.
I'll take better notes next month. Have a few intra-Scandi flights on the Norwegian Air Shuttle 738's which have free wi-fi onboard....don't see that in Australia either!!
