I am flying Melbourne to Heathrow QF9 12th June 2024 in J ETA Heathrow 13th 5.05am. I had a flight with BA 13th 10.10am to Newcastle UK. BA have just cancelled that flight and I am now booked on the next flight 3.15pm in business. Now I have approx 10 hours between flights. I need to get from t3 to t5. I get lounge access with BA. Leonardo Hotel will give me a room from 6.30 to 2 for 65 pounds but I have to get there and back at a cost.
How early can I access the BA lounge? I don't want to be there for say 9 hours. Can anyone suggest an alternative please. I understand I can check in bags on arrival at t5.

Does BA have earlier flights to Newcastle from London City? If so change to the LCY flight and get the tube from LHR to LCY

You can access the lounge any time that day.

I assume the NCL flight is a separate booking. Are you really set on flying? It's only 2:55 on the train from Kings Cross (+ 1 hour to get there from LHR). You'd be there hours before your flight is even due to depart.

There is BA check in at T3 as well, you might be able to recheck your bags there instead of T5 (someone else might be able to confirm).

No, only flights from LHR.

You can access the BA lounge when it opens which is 0500 for both North and South.

As mentioned above, if the LHR-NCL is the end of the ticket (and this is important otherwise the rest of the booking is cancelled) I'd be tempted to throw it away and get the LNER, it should take about 4 hours total travel time from Heathrow T3 to Newcastle Station.

BA are selling biz seats on BA1326 which departs at 0855. Might be tricky for you if the seats arent on the same PNR though, in case QANTAS run late.
If separate bookings id take the Ĺondon Kings Cross to Newcastle train as they run every half hour atm. Timetable isnt available yet for June but i cant imagine the frequency would drop radically.

As per the above take the train if the NCL flight is the last segment of the ticket.
Wouldn't think twice if it was me in that position.

When we had a 10hr wait in May 2023, we were on the same ticket BUT the time difference when we checked in at SYD to our ongoing flight meant that the baggage was not checked through (in our case to MAN). So had to go through immigration, collect luggage, and drag it between T3/5 (you can get between T3/5 free on the train). Checked luggage was sorted at the J counter by BA at the other terminal as we were WP & and were in J to LHR. We checked our carry on bags into the luggage store downstairs, and then went into London (Elizabeth Line) for the day.

If you need to wait for ten hours at LHR, what if you catch a train to the city for a breakfast, stroll in parks or other sights, perhaps an early lunch there, too, and then back to the airport. A much more meaningful way to kill time.

Did a similar transfer, but caught up with a friend at Kew Gardens during the day. (@Ausbt 👍)
Wander around in the daylight, have a coffee, smell the flora: it’s a very pleasant place to while away a few hours.

Stains … those Poms, they gots such great place-names!

I’d be on the train to Newcastle too, but if it’s too difficult to change the purchase for Reasons, I agree with others about killing some time plus getting some air/sunlight by finding Stuff to do in & around London. Few years back my better-half & our housemate were on an 8pm flight home & mine was about 10am, we drove together to the airport & dropped their luggage in a locker, I checked in, then they spent the day shopping in London - much better than sitting around for 10 hours!

When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life, for there is in London all that life can afford.

Who am I to argue with one of the world’s foremost lexicographers!

While I do agree, the only thing is … I don’t enjoy stuff like that as much alone. I’m not well travelled at all, but I’ve killed a little bit of time by myself OS, and one of the most enjoyable time-killings I’ve had was when we’d been into London for a bit of shopping while the Limpix were on & the train line towards Stanstead & Cambridge etc was busted for some reason or other, so myself & my wife & her mate wandered around a bit ‘til we found this really pleasant bar & sooo easily killed a few hours just nibbling & drinking & chatting & watching London wander past. Just an enjoyable vibe, and much more enjoyable with friends &/or family.

I’d kill time in the city if the flights couldn’t be canned; but if I was alone, my preference would just be to catch that train north instead of flying. :)
