Has anyone flown on business award syd-jfk and remember what the tax cost or could some give a rough estimate for tax?

it would be direct syd-jfk with no stops other the obligatory lax.
cheers

The taxes are $330.60 on QF107 / QF108 regardless of class of travel.

The 'tax' listed above also includes fuel surcharges... I don't think it is fair to the passenger, or travel agents, to make it look like these steep charges are all due to the government.

Just as an example I paid USD110 in actual taxes for travel Switzerland-Germany-Chicago and return (all in biz class) on a carrier that doesn't include fuel surcharges for award seats.

Huge difference.

Abosultely. The real taxes for SYD-JFK r/t are $160 plus QFs Fuel Fines et al of $195, so the "free" ticket is really costing $195 and the ticket cost is more than the taxes. A complete scam by Qantas to call these award tickets to be "free"

Just for the record: I agree with the above sentiments regarding so called "taxes" but I just gave a quick answer to the OP's question.

Perhaps I should have put quotes around "taxes" to avoid stirring the hornets's nest

My rant wasn't directed at you ColinP :) - just at airlines and certain travel agents in general who price taxes to look like they are government imposed.

Before they got rid of composite pricing here in Oz (or whatever it was called where they quoted the base fare and then all the taxes) I was very tempted to ring Bestflights or Flight Centre and ask them to honour one of their fares of $1000 + taxes and insist on only paying the actual tax. (Of course what they should have advertised was $1000 + taxes + fees and surcharges.)

Unfortunately there was never a fare i wanted to take them up on to prove the point and now it's too late!

The tax should be the same as that calculated by ITA Software: Login

Just do a lookup, selecting Qantas flights for the dates and time you are after.

A "tax" breakdown is provided.

Presumably you are lookingfor a one-way award.

I Get
ppplus.bmp
of $219.45

USDA APHIS Fee (XA) A$5.70
US Immigration Fee (XY) A$8.00
US Customs Fee (YC) A$6.30
QF YQ surcharge (YQ) A$85.00
QF YR surcharge (YR) A$25.00
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) A$24.15
Australian Passenger Movement Charge (AU) A$47.00
US International Arrival Tax (US) A$18.30

Was looking at some last minute redemptions for SYD-JFK and saw some availability in First for that route though via SIN,LHR. 192k points + taxes + QF fuel fines. I know it's the long way to the NYC but at least SYD-xSIN-LHR is on QF31's 388 ;)

Serfty, this is another new learning for me. I had a look @ at the site, but couldn't find the tax details. Please point me in the right direction. Many thanks

After bringing up the list of flight options look for the one you are after.

Click on "Details", then "Show Booking Details" on the next page.
