There is a bulletproof work related educational conference in NYC in December I can go to for about $10 per SC (net/ inclusive of DSC offer and bonus) for the flight and would re-qual me until Nov 2020 (except for 2x~ which is easy to get)

Approx net cost per SC (inclusive of DSC and bonuses) in J (for December 2019)
SYD-CHC $4
SYD-AKL $5
SYD-LHR $8
SYD-SIN $10 (J) $8 (F)
SYD-JFK $10
SYD-HND $11
SYD-SCL $10

Others can check

As the JFK one can be tax deductible the net cost will be just a little more than a SYD-AKL which I cant get work related.

Huh? Cancel your flex for a credit and then rebook a one way in flex? The sale fare outbound isn't going to get you DSC anyway.
Thanks Downloadingdata.
I called them and they canceled the whole ticket including the sale leg as it was part of the whole itinerary, and rebooked everything at no cost as I had the Flex Fare.
Result.

Partner and I both received this yesterday. Me plat and he silv. A 50% and DSC in one week. I'll have 900 by end of July with 11 months to get the remaining 300 to keep WP. No chance of P1 and some job uncertainty so no rush.

Husband and I both received it although days apart. Both SG although he will slip to silver this year. We looked into whether we should spend extra on a rtw trip but have been told that rtw flights are not eligible. Will wait for a (hopeful) sale.

Yes RTW flights are not eligible except that the segments with QF operated flights with a QF flight number are eligible. (Because QF does not do RTW and relies on partners to deliver the other segments)

It states that it must be a QANTAS Operated flight with a QF Flight Number - I guess this rules out flying via Dubai with Emirates with a QF Flight Number?

Correct. Must be both QF marketed (QF Flight Number) and QF operated. It’s been quite a while now since there were DSC offers with limited exceptions for flying QF tickets on a partner airline.

I reckon 18 months ago, during FY business planning session the exec team decided to test lots of different types of SC offers. We have just seen destination specific SG, fare class specific for this one, short and long booking windows, and no doubt more variants will come.

Expect lots of different tests. The profitable ones & winning ones will get rolled out as regular offers.

Sit back, snack on popcorn, and pounce when a suitable one hits.
Yes and no.

Yes, different kinds of testing happen, it isn't quite a human deciding who and what though.

This points to more intellignece by QF in targeting specific passengers and fare types. They are getting smarter. I can on one hand appreciate this move.

We may well see the end of "global" offers. It would not surprise me.

Also as P1,, have never received a targeted SC offer since 2014. This makes PERFECT sense to me. There's zero reason for them to offer this to P1's so I've never been surprised at that. On the other hand I did receive the recently targeted double points on domestic flights offer.. which does make sense well.. at lest it makes sense in terms of getting almost free bonus points for flights one would probably take anyway.

As a FF member I would not appreciate the removal of global offers but as an industry watcher and someone interested in the commercial side of things, I can absolutely appreciate where they are going with this stuff.

Over previous years we've seen more and more targeting of various offers (eg: get bonus X on flights to NZ, or USA or whatever) and it's been specific to perhaps up sales on certain routes, or even promote new routes to up demand, or even awareness. This sort of thing is an extention of this technology.

The next logical steps are to analyse each flyer's patterns and target appropriately.. either of the form "We see you fly to LAX the most.. how about double points if you fly in a higher fare class to LAX next time?" or alternatively "You never fly to Japan.. here's a offer to tempt yu to do so"

We're living in interesting times.

It is interesting. I’m glad I’ve made good use of DSC offers in recent years but would like the good offers to continue as I’ve got a long way to go to get to LTG.

Without DSC offers I would have spent a lot less with QF.

Thanks to DSC offers and the diminution of service and status I'm now spending a lot less with QF.

I never get these offers. I get heaps of QF shopping emails, constant emails about their NIB health insurance, and the odd one about QF Money, but never these status offers. I only fly once a year (to/from the US) these days, and so far have managed to get points upgrades for every international leg for the past 5 or 6 years, but never do I see these emails!

I just took advantage of this offer but I think I messed up.

I booked a Saver fare from Sydney to London return via Perth (wanted to try this route as I normally go via Singapore), but then realised - too late? - that the Sydney-Perth legs might not attract the DSCs.

Would the Sydney-Perth legs (with the domestic flight numbers) still attract the DSCs when they were included as part and parcel of Sydney-London return booking?

There is nothing in the offer T&Cs to indicate that you would get DSCs on domestic connections.

If you booked today, don’t forget that you can make changes to the booking without a penalty by calling Qantas on the same day.

I did not know that! Thank you!
