I've never found it all that great but recent visits have been woeful. I ran the Speedtest and it dropped out twice before finally coming back to life enough to run the full test. Result below:

And Brisbane is the best server? That might be a glitch. Anyway the speed when I finally got the test to run was almost acceptable (in 2001).

I'm going to see if there are better spots within the Lounge.

You can add Brisbane to the list, great if your uploading.
Finally got around to making an improvement suggestion.
Used to be good speeds in Brisbane. Must have changed providers.

I have no idea what those readings mean but generally find Virgin wifi slow.

In saying that Qantas wifi in SYD on Sunday was also slow. Don't think wifi speeds are the focus of 2 airlines trying to stay afloat.

Speedtest reflects the speed of an internet connection.
As it's speed it's reflect in megabits per second (mbps), not megabytes (MB). (1 megabyte = 8 megabits).
The ping reflects how quick connecting to a remote server on the internet responds.
It's a bit wayward as it has a 10% inaccuracy and the test only runs for a few seconds so, if your internet is slow on or off it's not a true capture.

There's many variables which factor in how fast the internet, though public wifi is heavily utilised areas (such as airports) are going to struggle. Whilst you just want a simple page to load there's people watching video streaming services, downloading and using multiple seeding tools (which speed up a download)

Was in the SYD lounge yesterday afternoon. It wasn't too bad for me yesterday (I was able to stream the new house of cards with no buffering).

I think it depends or a range of factors though, such as the device you're using, the location within the lounge (proximity to the router) and how many travellers are connected.

In BNE Lounge now and can't even log in! Just enter the password, it says password accepted then spins the wheels logging in and goes back to the initial login screen.

As a guide a really good download figure would be over 50 (NBN). If you get 10 I reckon you're doing all right. If I can get 5 at home I'm okay.

Wandered around the BNE Lounge to see everyone staring at the same login screen...

Last few times I've just ended up tethering off my phone... Definitely quicker a lot of the time.

I've been doing that too, even in hotels where the wifi has been sporadic at best. Problem is that my data allowance with Telstra is a lousy 1.5GB and I run it close or exceed it nowadays. Wouldn't kill Telstra to make it 3GB would it? Especially on an $85 plan.

Now I know why I prefer to sit quietly with a drink and read the paper

I ended up using the computers in the Lounge in BNE. Haven't done that for a long time. I didn't know they still had them.

That isn't a fault with the internet. That's a fault with the WiFi service authenticating. You need to mention it to the Lounge staff.

Yeah probably but a bit late now (back home). I guess you'd approach the front desk. It's not as though they have a dedicated IT person running around - that would be a nightmare of a job wouldn't it?
I wasn't there long enough and probably did the usual thing that others do of thinking that someone must have reported it by now so...

Look into a new plan - I had a phone so went for a BYO option at the same time they had some bonus data promotion. I now have 6GB for $69

Yes my phone is coming to the end of its contract so I'll look into that. Mind you the last time that happened the phone expired within a week of the warranty expiry.
Plus I'm keen on the Samsung Galaxy S7. Will see. Has to be Telstra sadly so I can get the coverage in the country.

Sorry forgot to mention mine was Telstra as well,I picked up a new iPhone for cheap so it worked out less than buying it through a plan.
