SYD to JFK in J with CX - flight report

This is an award flight that I booked at the exact date they were made available on the QFF web site (355 days ago?). I've never had a problem getting any flight that I wanted using QFF points – so long as you book at the moment that the flights are released.

QF points required were 278,000 for two people for SYD to JFK. Taxes were $553.16 AUD for two people.
When you say moment, do you mind sharing the exact time?

I am interested in how your HKG-JFK leg compares to my EWR-SIN experience with Singapore. I didn't quite fit in the seat but have never had any problems with CX.

I thought about doing this, I've only seen College level games before.
...
I'll be staying with Giants season ticket holders - however one of them is somewhat over being cold.

My invitation came via SMS thus in June: "If you would like to catch up in NYC and have a heavy coat, a seat at one of the giants games in December would be available.".

So some warm clothes are in order, plus a couple of bottles of St. Henri as they like that stuff. :)

I will do a TR re my 10 day sojourn, leaving after Christmas Day.

Looking forward to the lounges in HKG. I haven't been there in over 6 months. I'm assuming that The Pier is still the pick of them? But given I have more than 4 hours transit time, I'm sure that there will be time for a bit of a lounge crawl.

Not sure that I can remember given it was nearly 12 months ago. But I will say that I watched the release for the weeks leading up to the date when I wanted the tickets and I knew when it would happen to the minute. There is a definite pattern. And needless to say that I pounced. I'd also say that there were more than the 2 tickets that I wanted released and when I checked in the next few days seats for the same flight I have booked were still available.

Enjoy.

St Henri seems like the right 'price' to pay for tickets :)

This is the easiest way I find to get NYC reward seats and is / was quite easy to get. You got a good deal on the hotel suite sweet.

Yes please. Following with interest. We’re doing CX J on the A350-900 20A & 21A and F on the B777-300ER - 1A & 1K BNE-HKG-CGD Return next year

We flew F in the B777-300ER a few months ago on the HKG-BKK route and the seats were amazingly comfortable and the service was superb. Only problem was the flight wasn’t long enough, I’d love to do a longer jaunt in it although they would probably have to carry me off after I’ve polished off their Johnnie Blue :D

Re Broadway prices, some theatres run a lottery each day for a couple of tickets a show for a 'nominal' price. Need to be there when they draw it to collect. My wife and daughter got front row for Wicked for $20 or something, from memory.

2015 was at Cowboys Stadium just before Xmas for Jets v Cows, was well worth it. Wasn't snowing though :)

Will definitely be following along for the ride :).

Without starting arguments, I'd agree that 12 months ago the CX awards were released as you say. Nowadays, no way. I've been scanning both to/from Aus/US with CX late Nov/early Dec next year and the amount of awards and their release timings are all over the place now - since CX 'enhanced' their own award tables a few months back.

There's definitely still stuff their, but no where near the amount they used to release and it seems J awards especially aren't released in a pattern how they used to be (that could also be a QFF system loading thing I guess too?).

I know it's a long shot, but as per the details listed here (December 2018) I'll be in the Qantas Club in SYD tomorrow morning from around 7am and The Pier (or another J lounge) in HKG from around 3.30pm. Would feel ever so privileged if anyone was around and able to get me into an F lounge :)

Of course, happy to say hello to any AFF members who may be in the lounges mentioned as well :) Unfortunately I have no ability to guest anyone in to J.

Just checked the same flights for on time departures. The most recent HKG flight to JFK actually departed 5 mins early!

Confident that I saw 2 x 32 kg listed.
They changed the website yesterday and you are right, it is now 2 x 32kg to America. The standard J allowance is 40kg with 2 bags maximum or 2 x 32kg to the Americas or 3 x 23kg between HKG & NZ. This is really good for me, as I was very close to 23kg + have skis as the 2nd bag for my trip in Jan.
