Is there a similar sign preventing non-QF pax to the rgular lounge outside the temp lounge? Seems a bit weird to restrict QF's own pax...
No. The only sign is the one in the corridor to the regular J lounged advising non-QF pax to go to the temporary lounge.

I got the impression at check-in (because I queried it) that the regular J lounge is now much smaller due to the renovations, whereas the temporary J lounge is the old QF lounge and therefore large enough for QF pax to use.

What would you do if some random standing outside the FLounge asked you to guest them in as you entered for your facial and caviar? ;) Would you guest a stranger in?
I would guest a stranger into any lounge I had access as long as they appear to be a decent person, suitably dressed and they asked me to guest them into the lounge. I hardly see any people hanging around outside lounges anyway.

Am currently in the Temporary Qantas Intl J lounge in SYD, having wandered down from the F lounge, and deciding to pop in as my flight leaves from the gate above the lounge. Plus, I prefer the bottled water in the J lounge to the F lounge. Summit IMHO is much better than the Italian Mineral waters in the F lounge.

The lounge is ok. 4 business PC's, decent amount of seating. Basic spirits, a couple of wines and some basic but ok (bottled) beers on offer. (Beers included Carlton Draught, Pure Blonde, Cascade Light and Crown). Couldn't see any HP. Food was pretty basic. If you can track down the photos from the temp F lounge, then you'll see what the temp lounge looks like.

In SYD you won't see many hanging about as the F bouncer guards the top of the escalators. I have guested a stranger in once though who was already at the desk and having a problem with access, didn't have his card or something. Felt pretty good as the dragon was giving him a hard time and refusing to look up his details.

... and almost certainly has better beer! :p

SYD Int J has a little fridge with cans and bottles of beer in it. There may have been a postmix station but I didn't look past the fridge.

The "Downstairs" Recent Temporary F lounge being used a a Temporary QP (looking across at gate 31) is was set up like this.

The 'postmix' reference was to the J lounge upstairs (currently undergoing partial renovation) which looks out over gates 8,9,10 & 24

They have that fridge upstairs too. I was drinking Crownies out of in in the morning 2 months ago, and got the usual strange looks from a few people, and a few approving looks from some blokes who joined in :)

If I could be next door sipping veuve with eggs bene, then I wouldnt be wondering about postmix beer either! ;)

Does anyone know if the refurbishment has been completed yet?
If I'm going via CX business class, but QFF Gold - does that mean I can choose either "temp" venues :)

The Qantas web site indicates it due for completion this month.
... The current Business lounge will remain open during construction, however as space will be limited, Qantas customers are invited to use temporary lounge facilities next to gate 24. Eligible customers travelling on other airlines including Jetstar, British Airways and Cathay Pacific Airways will be accommodated in the current lounge, however due to limited capacity, guest restrictions may apply. The lounge is due for completion in February 2008.
GIven travel on CX, I would say Upstairs.

It's open.

Kinda reminds me of ..... the old lounge!

One thing different is a long "bar" in the centre section near the windows, with some bottles to help yourself from. But I was too annoyed by the lack of free wireless to have a good look around. Of course the wireless came good 3 minutes before my flight was called!

Cheers,

Andrew

Question for you guys...

The last couple of times I was at Sydney airport in the International Bus-Lounge, I asked about the "free" wireless. I was told to connect to the airport one and choose Telstra or Optus. But both of these were asking me to $pay$

Did the flunkie at the lounge just give me the wrong details? Can you get internet access for free???

Cheers.

Did they retain the Postmix Beer pouring stations or is it now bottled?

I'll find out Sunday morning - and I'll post if I can get onto the internet for free!

He gave the details for the Terminal WiFi setup. You should be able to access free WiFi in the J and F lounges.

The Telstra service in the SYD International FLounge is free. When you open the browser, there is a Telstra/Qantas Club logo to click to "get connected". This is the same as the domestic Qantas Clubs and I assume the same for the International J lounge.

Managed to get in here the other week; when flying on QF to WLG and the temp lounge was too far to walk having come 15mins from the other terminal.

It still looks by and large like the old lounge. Particularly the bar/servery stations. They had both the tap beer and bottled beer when I was there.

It is obviously an improvement; a few different seat layouts etc. but it largely the shell of the old one.
