Hi All
Question I am about to book flights to SYD-MEL return in one day - I need to be in Melbourne for an Expo in October - I plan on getting QF 7amish flight gets in at 9am then going to Melbourne Convention Centre - then getting my return flights at 7pm which gets me back into Sydney at 8.25pm

Question:
Which aircraft has the best BUSINESS CLASS - my options are:
A330-200
Boeing 737-800 (Winglets)
On the return I also have the option of: 767-300/300ER

How long does it take to get from Melbourne Tullarmine airport to the Melbourne convention centre?

....Thanks all
Bec from Sydney

Your flight is going to be so short you're not going to do much lie-flat sleeping on, so the benefits of the 767 or A330 wont really be worth it, but they do probably give a bigger seat.

I would choose flights based on meal options rather than aircraft types, making sure I got breakfast in the morning and didn't miss dinner in the evening. The refreshment services aren't the end of the world, but you can do better with a full meal service.

Unless you get a brand new 737-800, you're not going to have very good IFE. I'd say the 767 actually has the best at the moment, with every seat gaining a personal iPad with streamed content. I can't recall what the A330 has, probably it's own screen tucked in the armrest. But again, how much of a show will you get through on a short flight, especially as you're eating/drinking? :p

My preference in J is A330 > B767 > B737.
Driving from the airport to convention centre should take no more then 30 minutes in normal traffic conditions.

For a flight of that length, as Sam has suggested I'd be picking flights based on meals, not AC type.

I would allow an hour each way to / from the convention center, esp if traveling over peak times. Don't forget to also factor in the "waiting at airport" time when heading back to MEL airport. Last thing you want to be doing is arriving at the airport at the same time your plane is boarding (since security can be a little bit of a nightmare)
On the bright side, you'll be able to checking / pick up boarding passes for both ways (assuming you are getting them at the airport and not BYOing from a printer) in SYD that morning, so you won't have any official check in to be doing at MEL.

Also I'm with the others, pick a flight based on meal times.

Hi Everyone

Based on meal I totally agree too but HOW do i see what the meals/options are??

xx

Breakfast until 8am and dinner from 6pm.
I don't think you can actually see the menu.

ok so ive booked QF 411 (7.30am) and QF 462 (7pm) both business class hopefully thats full meals cause yep ill be wanting breakfast and dinner after a very long day

A small tip, if you like to get your wine glass refilled a few times during dinner try to select your seat as close to the front as possible ;)

Thanks marc - i booked QF 411 (7.30am) and QF 462 (7pm) both business class

ALso -- strange i notice on flight 462 im in row 4 window - i notice its a single seater aisle -- dont htink ive seen that in a few years?? 1 - 2 -2 ??

yep - thats it! i am on row 3 which is the last row of business on QF 411 which is the 737 (Winglet) - only 12 business class seats - will that flight be a goo done? i can easily change - i just want a good meal and a smooth flight i have so much on my plate that day and leading up to it - its a 7.30am flight

On the 737 first two rows are reserved to Gold and Platinum for pre-selection AFAIK.
It's a short flight and meals should be similar, no matter which type of aircraft you are on.

Or for those who call up QF and ask for them.

Me personally, I would choose my flight based on the very best times to suit. Short flight a/c type wouldn't bother me, food on board wouldn't worry me either as OP is flying J have access to all types of food in Bus lounge

A330 followed by 767. I would avoid 737 if I was paying.

I know that should be the case but I don't have much respect for the 737 aircraft.

I have an AA award in November 2014 for a 5:00am BNE-SYD flight in A330 business. That was the only reason I chose that departure. Flight has been substituted to a 737. I feel cheated. The 5:30am flight is a 767. I would prefer to be on that one. I am the mercy of AA.

I know your thoughts quite well on the topic, however unless you get either an intl 767 (aren't there 3-4 left), or an intl 330 (either the 333 or EBG/H/I/L), the seats between the 767, 330 and 737 are very similar in terms of space.

Good luck getting the 767 at 5:30.
