I've got an upcoming Emirates F flight. EK415, leaving SYD at 0600. We'll be staying at Rydges just a few metres from T1, so transit time will be a few minutes, and the big problem will be waking up.

I'm seeing from my research the following timeline:

0300 - Terminal opens
0300 - Emirates checkin opens (0600 departure, they advertise check-in from H-3)
0400 - Customs opens
0500 - QF Flounge opens
0530 - Boarding commences (estimate)

I can't find an opening time for the Emirates lounge, but I'm guessing it's 0400 or thereabouts.

Given that the Flounge opens at 0500 and it's a fifteen minute walk to the gate, I'd have maybe enough time for a cup of coffee there before leaving.

Or I could get to the Emirates lounge at 0415 and have an hour or so before boarding. It seems to be inbetween the QF F and J lounges for quality.

Or I could leave the hotel at 0500 and pretty much just stroll from there onto the plane.

On that note, I'm leaving Canberra the previous evening, and maybe I could just check my bags straight through to Tehran, live out of my carryon in the hotel, and be generally unencumbered during the transit.

Anyone familiar with the timings and has the optimum solution worked out?

I did something very similar recently, stayed at Rydges, left Rydges at 4:30 checked in at FJ with no queues, went straight through automated passport gates and security in under 3-4 mins (also not very busy), had to wait 15 mins for F lounge to open which opened a few mins early.
We had the whole F lounge to ourselves for at least 30 mins, :D just order your food/coffee as soon as you get in so you don't miss out on eating before boarding.

Although our flight was a 6:30 flight, it was right down the other end so we had to leave the lounge @ about 6:10. By the time we left at 6 there were only 4 other people in the lounge.

Personally I would sleepin a bit, checkin @ 4:15~ and goto F lounge for a quick breakfast before boarding.

I should already be checked in. I imagine they'll give us our onwards BPs in CBR, and if we check the bags all the way through, it's just a matter of going to passport control.

But assuming the Qantas Flounge opens at 0500, I'm still going to have a max of thirty minutes there, and that's cutting it close for an 0600 departure.

I am just presuming here but I don't think they will keep your bags that long overnight, some airports do around the world, but i've had mel-syd-hkg on the one ticket before with mel-syd being the night before, and they would only check my bag through to syd, as the layover was 'too long'.

Either way even if they don't through check I would imagine the EK First checkin would be pretty speedy anyway.

Let us know how you go

Not a chance of of booking through. Syd closes & will not keep baggage o/n. You won't even get boarding passes for the next day.
We did EK F to Auckland last year & over nighted in Rydges. EK F book in is a breeze & they have baggage trolleys there at Rydges.
Your problem is really breakfast in the QF Flounge.

Re: Sydney international airport opening hours

Personally I would sleep in a bit more and just make my way to the EK lounge 30 minutes before likely boarding. You are travelling F so will get a great breakfast onboard. The QF F lounge breakfasts are good but not so amazing, the spa isn't open, and you'll be watching the clock so not relaxed.

But note I have visited F lounges dozens of times so the novelty is wearing off!
