Is there a special F or J class checkin at SYD international airport?

SIN has a special room for F and J to check in, with seats and porters, and special entrance to immigration.

Also, are the immigration ques very long when coming back into aus?

thanks

No special F or J service at the moment that I'm aware of, although seperate lines for F and J pax normally for the different airlines.

You join the rest of the people waiting for Oubound passport checks. The queue can be short or long. Shortest I've had it is a straight walk through, the longest has been around 10-15 mins when the queue was long.

I believe Qantas is implementing a special F checkin area in SYD similar to Singapore. However, I'm not sure special customs clearance is part of it.

Inbound, you can possibly join the "Duty Free" line if you wander through the inbound duty free shop. This can be shorter than the other lines, or could be longer. Otherwise look at the lines and choose the shortest.

SYD inbound is pretty busy customs and quarantine scanning wise.

Seperate J and F isles and staff but not sure about any special room etc for the F's. I don't get the pleasure often, i am sure others can inform.

As for leaving and arriving queue's it can vary greatly, sometimes is super busy (i have take 45mins or more before to get in), other times you just stroll up and pick your person or xray machine.

Best way is look at the arrivals / departures and if you flight is the same time as the big 747's from HKG,SIN,LAX etc then its probably going to be busy.

Yup - SYD time to get through immigration etc on arrival has varied anywhere from under 5 minutes to more than 90 for me. Outbound from 1 minute to over an hour. Really depends a lot on time of day, and also on luck. Naturally start and end of school holidays are bad for departures and arrivals respectively.

Ever since I got my APEC Card, the queues have been much better

:?: Umm PP? And March? APril +16 Months = June - colour me confused...
Actually, a passport with < 6 months validity can be a liability.

Most counties require your passport to be valid for a period of time upon entering that country. This may be 3 months, sometimes 6 (often coinciding with the permitted stay for your entry into that country) .

So in reality, for a frequent O/S traveller, a 10 year passport is not really useful for 10 years at all; it is effectively only a 9½ year passport. :-|

Be glad you get 10 years. Once I renew (will need to be soon as I have no more space for visas) I only get 5 years as an option, effectively under 4.5 years. Then again, my current passport has been valid for much less time than that.

Not if using UK passport since they allow early renewal and set the expiration date of the new passport to be 10 years after the expiration of the old passport. renew 6 months early and they will issue a 10.5 year passport

6AM conference call today - despite being an accountant maths is not my forte today....
Try 6am calls 4 days a week, and midnight calls 4 nights a week. Talk about jetlag without the duty-free allowance. Its a real concern when you have a 3-way conflict for meetings in the 6am-8am timeslot and in the midnight to 2am timeslot. At least I could follow the first innings of the cricket last night.

Doesnt sound like a heap of fun NM. People know that I will happily do a call any time after 5AM but rarely after 5PM ;)

Its a tough one having our team based in LON, PIT and SYD - these next few months are killers conference calls for everyone - and th ebloody americans always get off easy

In my experience, the Americans and the Europeans won't join calls outside their usual work times. So it always falls to us Aussies to be on the blower at the bad times. At least I work from home with some flexibility. This morning I took a few hours off and took my 2 year old to Kindy Gym. So it goes both ways.

but now I have to also schedule flights around having conference calls between midnight and 2am, and between 6am and 8am. Hmm, that means I have to get into PER before 9pm to be able to get to the hotel and ready for a call at 10pm local time.

I am lucky that my counterpart in the UK (there are three people at my level (EUR, Oz, NA) plus my boss and some other monkeys in our group) has a 1.5-2 hour commute so he is happy to do calls after he is home and eaten.

Similarly my work is flexible on my hours as they know I travel at weekends, start emails at 5AM etc. - so often work from home if things are being delivered etc...

The Canadians must be more flexible that their US cousins :)
