The liberal use of US 'to rule out DVT' also causes issues, including false reassurance. You may never have referred a patient for a venogram but it remains the gold standard and far more accurate in ruling out DVT. We are, however, drifting off topic.

I agree but out with clinical trials it has no practical real life clinical application in the group of patients who are travellers with swollen calves.
All definitely OT and the OP should seek medical advice.

Hi all just to let you guys know, bloods test for liver and kidneys all normal ankels back to normal which I'm grateful for. I did say to my doc that if the test come back with a problem with the kidneys or liver I was going to take up smoking again and eating **** food as I have been eating and keeping my self quite fit for years now I guess it was just the heat up here in Cairns and them bloody nozzles biting the hell out of me before that flight. I'm here in Lombok now and ankles and calfs are fine.
Here's to good health and a Bintang beer. Thanks for all your suggestions, appreciate it. Cheers

swollen ankles and calfs

And ironically after my contribution I am currently in hospital being treated for a blood clot. I took my own advice about seeing a dr for a lump in my throat.

Maybe this thread resolved your issue in some way and also mine. Go figure, as they say.

My symptoms started on 12th.

I could really go a bintang right now. Mmm. Maybe not.

Not as bad as you pushka but yesterday struggled to walk on the right ankle I broke 16 years ago. Today it's the left hip and right ankle. I have a rheumatology appointment in a couple of hours. Coincidence?

Hope you get better quick pushka.

Hey Johnk. Doing my research and dvt can be related to previous breaks. All the research I've been doing with dr google comes up with this kind of stuff

I've been asked several times if I relate to any of these predispositions. I think Just spontaneous.
Its boring in hospital.

OMG how freaky is all that ......secretly I know your a frugal drug user. :D :D :D

I just wish they made them longer or tighter. I hate how they fall down. I prefer the DVT to be squeezed out.
Squeezed out and sent to your lung? I'd rather keep it in my leg. :)

As others have said, see your GP. If you're not happy with their response, find another one. :)

Last month one of my business associates had a DVT travel to his lung. I am pleased to report that after some time in a US hospital he was able to travel back to Australia and is feeling so much better. The travel compression stockings he now has extend way past his knees. The medication he now travels with is Xarelto.

Thats the brand name of the drug I am on. I guess he has been told that unlike warfarin, there is no 'quick fix' if he starts bleeding heavily? So just needs to be vigilant. The drug effect wears off after a few hours though.

So dose that mean that once one has this condition, one has to stay on the medication for life or do these drugs dissolve the blood clot over time, and all is back to normal?

Depends on the patients risk factors.
As with most of medicine, there's often non a black or white answer.

*the drugs won't desolve the clot, but will stop it from expanding and the body will break it down.

Yes, that is right. I don't expect to be on this forever.
