Hi all recently returned from Adelaide to Cairns and noticed my calfs and ankles were a bit swollen which is pretty normal after a flight for me, they go down after 24 hours or so , but not this time, they have been swollen and a bit sore the old calf's for about 5 days now, did seen a doc has taken some bloods waiting for the results , I feel good except this swellings starting to pee me off , any natural home remedies to help reduce the swelling, that actually work is much appreciated.

Cheers

Mark3000 is wanting to rule out the worst. And there is a reason why your calves have not decrease in size.? Make sure it's not the worst case scenario first.

Have you tried the legs in the air trick?
Have you tried compression stockings trick?
Have you tried whole body in swimming pool trick ? Takes long time
Also there is the S.Warne trick of A diuretic if it's just fluid in your legs ( pitting oedema)
Certain foods and certain drinks trick
Also certain creams trick
All have different levels of effectiveness and varying results.

Once you've eliminated the thrombosis issue, try tucking a pillow at the end of your bed overnight. Surprisingly effective.

Pushka that's legs in the air trick

I think that Pushka's suggestion is the best one. Given that your legs have been swollen for so long there could be other causes for your symptoms. Seeking medical advice on the Internet is always fraught with danger.
Go back to your GP as soon as you can for a further assessment.

It's rare to get DVT in both legs so if both are swollen that's generally a "good" sign. Definitely get it ruled out though.

Epsom salt bath and elevation. Hot humid weather doesn't help.

With a pillow and overnight though. (Can't do legs in the air all night and sleep. A bit more info perfects the technique. And improves the outcome ;))

Agree 100% with Princess Fiona.

johnnyk, if you're at a loss with a medical condition, don't waste time with the internet for answers, see a GP whom can see what is going on and give you medical advice based on your actual condition. In general I've found medical advice on the internet goes from worst case scenario's through to down right dangerous advice.

Fluid retention?

My feet, legs, hands and fingers sweel all the time. Took Lasix for a while but have since stopped taking it. On some days it's hard to get socks and shoes on. It can also be difficult to hold a golf club if fingers swollen.

My ankles, feet and calves swell all the time when flying which I've always put down to being stuck in Y :(

Mine usually go back to normal after a day or two, but I would definitely consider going to see a GP as the next steps to determine if it could be anything serious... Try doing some calf raises (stand flat foot, then up on your toes) as a bit of exercise to increase circulation in the area.

Do not rely on Doctor Google. Your life is not a dress rehearsal so go to your doctor to start working on the fix for your body.

No substitute for seeing a GP, but epsom salts in warm water do help reduce swelling. As does raising your feet (if they are swelling) above your heart when you are sleeping (I use a doona to raise my injured ankle at the moment).

While the OP should seek medical advice - for anyone having problems with swelling feet/legs during flight, I recommend flight socks (Scholl make them, as do other manufacturers). They work really well.

I gave up wearing flight socks because when they wrinkled they cause my ankles to end up with these deep ridges that took quite some time to even out. Super ugly.

Yes, super ugly - but better deep wrinkles than deep vein thrombosis.
