Is this normal?: I booked an around the world classic award (Oneworld, economy) for myself and 2 kids back in December. I was charged $1498 in fees. I added some flights in January and was charged more fees ($629) - plus I used points to cover the Change Fees and International Service Fees. They have finally got around to sending me the eTicket by email and now they have charged my credit card for an additional $670.80. They have not said what this is for. Could it be because the Aussie dollar has dropped since I booked? Do they have the right to change the fees like this after it is booked and the charges been paid?

You definitely paid the original $629? As in there was a charge against your card? Overall, my first action would be to call them and ask why?

There have been a few recent incidents where there has been an erroneous QF charge.

Thanks. I rang Qantas and sorted out the problem. They were fees for fuel surcharges and airport taxes for a second change I made to my flights in March (sorry; I forgot about that). The delay in charging me was apparently because "the change was originally rejected". Not sure what that means because no one told me about any "rejection" problem at the time, and the change of booking was confirmed.

Anyway, I'm happy. Or as happy as anyone could be after paying a total of $945 each for taxes and "additional ticket charges" for my around the world flights.

Ok makes some sense. However, it now sounds like you've been charged fuel surcharges 2 or 3 times (original booking plus 2 changes). Perhaps I misunderstand, but that doesn't sound right. Surely you should get a credit for previously paid fuel surcharges. :?:

The OP did say he added some flights.

The 2 changes I made to the flights involved adding new flights so they just charge for the new surcharges.

From reading on this site, I've actually done pretty well to keep my surcharges below $1000 for an around the world trip.
