Having done the Great Southern Land scenic flight last year but skipped the flights to somewhere I am tempted to have a shot at getting a ticket.

Are they only selling window seats or the entire seat map? I saw the video of the Aurora flight and thought what good is it having a middle seat with no window view? The Aurora looked amazing - the window PAX certainly got their moneys worth...

The middle seat blocks are blocked out in J/Y and the middle seat in Centre row blocked out in PE

Bugger. We have plans to go to Lake Mungo otherwise I would have tried to get seats.

I am sure that all of you will enjoy the flight but please remember that you will barely, if at all, be able to spot the difference between a 'supermoon" and a "normal" Moon. The phrase "supermoon" was coined by an astrologer in 1979 and I am sure most will understand the lack of scientific backing for almost any statement made by one of those charlatans.

Also the position of the moon with regards to the horizon is important - the further it rises the less the atmosphere applies magnification.

The flight is 7:30pm and returning by 10:30 so not sure how that relates to moon rising.

Edit. Just called Qantas for the first time in 14 months!!!!

I suspect this is going to be a complete PR disaster...

If there was a P1 pre-sale then it looks as if a lot of the seats have been snapped up.

Looking at QF1250 on 26/5/21 from SYD to ZZF reveals the following:

If the occupied seats are presales then there are just 55 seats remaining for everyone else at midday tomorrow (7 in J, 10 in PE and 38 in Y).

Thanks for the seat maps....my EF account has expired and I didn't renew!

It is good they have blocked the middle seats and most people who get a seat will be happy - I hope the view is a spectacle and not just a regular looking Moon that can only be seen one side of the aircraft for most of the flight!

Off-topic but you don't need a subscription for EF seat maps, just the free account is sufficient.

It's a 2hr 45min flight so I guess they'll do loops around similar to the Antarctica or Southern lights flights. With just 55 seats in contention tomorrow and more than 55 news outlets picking up the flight I'd say you'd just be happy to get a seat based on that alone.

Hope it wasnt too long a wait, and that the wait was worth it!!

Probably even less seats by then.

Im not even going to attempt this one, as a lowly gold have no chance (even less since Im in a meeting at the time it opens up).

On reflection, I think the Southern Lights flights would offer something more unique.

Going by that, the moon will be half way up the Eastern sky during the flight, not reaching its zenith until midnight, 2 hours after the flight's descent.

Managed to get 2 tickets in Premium Economy - kept refreshing the page every few seconds until 12. Unfortunately couldn't get a window seat let alone a seat next to the person I booked with but can't really complain, we'll probably still get some view.

Clearly was popular with Platinum Ones as with the October flight I managed to snag a window seat at the bulkhead as everything was left a few seconds in but only a handful of seats were left.
