Suggestions for SYD hotel with a high view

I am taking some people to Sydney soon (not during Vivid) who have requested a stay at a hotel who can provide a room on a high floor so that we can have a good view. By this of course I mean an affordable room as there'd be presidential suites and the like on the top floors but that would be beyond our budget.

I'm thinking to the Meriton in Brisbane where you can get a high floor (25 or something?) at a reasonable rate. How much would we have to spend for the cheapest high-floor room - is this possible for around say the $400/night mark?

We are after a room with a high view rather than a hotel with an elevated lounge view - we'd like to enjoy it from the privacy of the room.

Hoping to get your expertise. Thanks. I've stayed in a few Sydney hotels and trying to think of the one in Haymarket that was fairly high - now called Radisson maybe?

Shangri-la is the hotel I usually take first time visitors to Sydney. The refurbished club rooms offer great views of the Opera House and Bridge.
Regarding Meriton Brisbane, go to the "old" one and make sure to get room with river views. They have some good promos sometimes and you can get high floor rooms at reasonable cost.

Depending what kind of view are you after? For intimate Sydney Harbour / Opera House views, definitely the Park Hyatt. For views perched high seeing the harbour / Opera House then the Shangri La. If you are after awesome city views then Meriton World Tower where you can get rooms up to Level 76 - though the view is allocated at check in though I am happy with either North East (facing the heads) or North West (facing Darling Harbour), each have pro's and con's. I prefer the DH view as at night there is daily fireworks. If we have friends over, we book them into the Meriton World Tower because they are apartments, we can book the high floor apartments which start at level 60, and are either 2 or 3 bedrooms which have more space than you can poke a stick at.

Thanks, will investigate this. The views as on TripAdvisor images look great and I did like the Altitude restaurant the one time I went there.

Another one to consider - might see if I can use the one night offer from IHG Dining Rewards. Have stayed there once but can't recall what I thought about the view.

Park Hyatt is a bit out of my price range though thanks for reminding me Sydney has a Meriton too Now I remember on a previous visit not going with that because it was too hard with a car. I think the Meriton is looking very good.

We really liked our stay when it was the Marriott, that was good too.

Been a long time (7 years since I retired & I was staying there every week when I commuted from Adelaide), but I reckon the Harbourview at North Sydney would be hard to beat. Just ask for a top floor room. I know its been done up as they were doing that as I was finishing up work.

Definitely the Shangri-La for harbour views and the Meriton World Square towers for Hyde Park, Darling Habour and general city views. The Meriton penthouse is reasonably priced especially on a Sunday and during the week.

Thanks for your input too, I've stayed in North Sydney (and used to live there) but not at Harbourview.

As others have said if you want the postcard harbour view then you cannot go wrong with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and the Pullman. The Intercon can be funny as not all rooms have decent views - more like glimpses.

Meriton World Square is good as you can stay on level 60+ however no harbour view, and for the price you may as well spend a little extra for a harbour hotel. Just make sure you request harbour views - not Opera House view or Harbour glimpse etc the hotels are getting tricky these days with room categories.

I have never been disappointed with either "Harbour Bridge view" or "Opera House view" at the IC. The view from the Club Lounge is outstanding.
