Suggestion: Sticky thread or help desk for LAX transits

An erstwhile member (I forget who) has said one of the most FAQs on AFF (probably second only to 'when is the next DSC?') is LAX transit times needed for a connecting flight.

It seems that which terminals to get to, TBIT etc, are also asked about regularly.

Thus my suggestion - a sticky / help desk about transiting in LAX - how much time for a flight to LAS/CLT/MSY etc, recent experiences, as well as navigating the terminals.

It might help consolidate all the threads popping up asking "I'm arriving on QF11 and then on AA to SLC, is this enough time..."

Hi to all,

I understand it is a topic which has been repeatedly covered here in the past, however I am just seeking a more 'current' update please:

Early next year I am flying from SYD to Mexico via LAX.
In order to travel 'on the cheap' I have already booked my Australia-LAX return tickets and are now looking to purchase the LAX-Mexico return tickets.

Can I ask what the process will be at LAX, when flying both directions to and from Australia in terms of customs, immigration and baggage collection?
Given the Mexico flights will be on a separate ticket to my SYD-LAX-SYD flights with...
