Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

I doubt I'm ever going to put in for a bid, but got an offer today for an upcoming flight: even though it's not going to be "successful", do you want the data for a comparison point?

Original Fare: Flexi Saver (V)
Original Fare $: $267
CNS-BNE, 23-FEb
Minimum points: 3,000 (is this standard minimum points or does it differ per route?)
Min $: $150
Max $: $390

Now in the suggested format:
23-Feb, CNS, BNE, V, 3000, $150, -, -, kevrosmith

I think we should record the Minimum and Maximum $'s asked at the Minimum point level for consistent comparison. Perhaps at the end a "status": successful, not successful, no bid etc. rather than just having Successful bids, people can compare what didn't succeed. In the case of Not successful, perhaps a comment which might indicate why not: e.g. "When I boarded, it looks like J was full anyway".

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Interestingly, EF is showing Y is pretty much full, while plenty of availability in J: perhaps they are trying to reduce Op Ups on this flight (plenty of business travellers with status on this regular Monday morning commuter flight).

(Ps. I'm aware this may be a bit of 'discussion', but it's data which adds to the "success" or otherwise of the bid)

So considering a V class classic upgrade costs 7,500 points - you're essentially paying $150 for 4,500 points. Doesn't sound like very good value to me.

EDIT: sorry :/ just read this thread is just for the data not discussion

From the email I received about this:

Might be good to know the max points level. 7500?

Exactly like I thought, it's cough.
Why would anyone choose bidding over normal points upgrade if anyway status pax requests are given priority?!

Only if the dollar component gives a reasonable value to the reduction in points required to obtain the upgrade.
Some people would like to hoard their points for the possibility of obtaining one of the round the world One World awards, so might be willing to contribute $$ (if not excessive). These are likely the regular flyers but not the WP partner and WP1 group.

As long as most of the premium cabins can be sold at the current prices, QF's offers to the QFF community will be tokens.

Happy wandering in search of a J cabin

JessicaTAM would you consider using the Google Forms functionality of that little spreadsheet?

Instead of you having to transfer the data yourself to the sheet, a bidding member would populate the webform, which when submitted updates your spreadsheet.

On your Google Sheet Go to Tools >> Create Form

Let me know if you want further explanation.

Can I also suggest we add a tab for "Not Bid" to collect data on where people get an email but choose not to bid

I have PMed you a link to the form (my first offence).

Don't think we need the points balance data. Didn't Qantas announce offers would only be sent to pax without sufficient points for a classic points upgrade?

I don't believe 'only' was used. The one data point so far is from someone I assume would have sufficient points for an upgrade.

If that is the case it might explain why so few people have seemingly received offers.

There seems to be a little lack of precision in the language used in the news article.

The report said:

The upgrades are designed for frequent flyers who do not have enough points to book a "classic award" for a firm booking of a business class seat or to put in a request for a "classic upgrade award" to upgrade using points

And it also quoted Qantas Loyalty chief executive Lesley Grant who said:

For a member who doesn't have enough points to submit an upgrade request for their whole family, bid now upgrades offers an alternative chance to travel at the front of the plane with their spouse and children using a combination of money and points,

So while it seems the new upgrade is designed for those who lack the points for a classic upgrade award, I agree that it does not exclude the possibility of offers being sent to others.

So maybe this is something it would be useful to monitor after all.

I only (;)) mentioned it because the pricing so far makes the quotes you've given seem like disingenuous rhetoric.

Apologies for continuing this discussion in the wrong thread.
