Many people were critical when I started this thread as perhaps it allowed too much information to be available on these types of bookings....

But it has been a very valuable source of information and a very big thank you for the efforts put into the spreadsheet by JessicaTam

Unsure of SCs now

Jun 14 | May 15 | J | BNE - PER | 72000 | $400 ish | ?? | ?? | should be 80 sc per person . This is for 2 persons.

Again thank you to all contributors

Thanks to JessicaTam for keeping the Google spreadsheet up to date and to all the contributors to this thread. It was invaluable to us and to QF, it seems.

The MASA is dead, long live Simplification Day :).

Now that it is done and dusted, I have to pass on my thanks to all that helped me, by keeping this site and page active and up to date. It has enabled me to book several flights and get to and maintain Gold membership til March 2017, Thank You all.

Now that I've survived another EOFY, I thought I'd finally get around to posting my recent successes (better late then never?). Each time I phoned I was told that mAsa's were removed because they weren't very popular and no-one used them. All of the following are using minimum Points.

Apr 14 | Aug 14 | J | BNE-AKL-BNE | 72,000 | $ 440 | ? | ? | 160 SC |
Apr 14 | Feb 15 | J | BNE-AKL-BNE | 72,000 | $ 440 | ? | ? | 160 SC |

Jun 14 | Aug 14 | J | BNE-ADL-BNE | 96,000 | $ 33 (yes this is correct) | ? | ? | 120 SC Rate is for 2 people - SC's for 1 person

For accuracy - are you able to correct the following on the spreadsheet?:)
- Line 58 - BNE-AKL-BNE
-
Line 59 - is a double up- Line 69 - BNE-HKG/SIN-BNE
- Line 70 - is a double up

Thanks once again to all the help from fellow AFFER's. Without them, I would have wasted over a million and a half points on Classic Awards over the past 2 years.

It was shintaro10x that first told me about mASA in September last year at my first AFF get together and JessicaTam that provided the resource (spreadsheet) I needed to book the flights.

Thanks to these 2 members in particular I went from NB to SG in a couple of months, also with some prodding by Anna.

I am very greatful to these 3 in particular but also thank you to everybody that contributed.
Could we have done this without being a collective? I don't think so.

Sayonara mASA.

How on earth did you manage that? BNE-ADL-BNE is 48,000 per pax plus a lot more than $16.50 for a Classic, nevermind a JASA!

I know it has to be a mistake. I queried it (very quietly) and the guy told me it was correct. (Mind you I am not on the plane yet). Swings and Roundabouts I say :D. I know paid too much for some mASA's in the early days because they just didn't know what they were doing, and I didn't have time to keep hanging up and trying again.

Can't believe how much time I (happily) spent browsing for (and booking) flights to random places over the past 2 years, just for the sake of going somewhere, using a JASA and swinging by the Flounges in Sydney & Melbourne. What on earth will I do now I wonder?

Yes... I admit it became a nice (expensive) hobby for me too - booking and travelling for the fun of it. I connected it largely with following my sports teams (Victory, Storm, Carlton). And exploring new places I'd never been to in FNQ and FNWA.

They say the journey itself is the true reward. For me though, I have just as much fun planning, dreaming, scheming and gaming it all out. Itinerary spreadsheet, points earning spreadsheet, target points spreadsheet. I may need to get a life.... ;)

We almost need a thread called "Vale mASA... What the HECK do we all do now ??? " :)

I never used them for status runs - but they've taken me to Africa and South America a few times . Ah well, good things can never last forever :(.

I wonder if QF will notice (or care) about the downturn in redemptions and the associated ancillary revenue that came with the mASA co-payments? Let's hope so.

I do think that perhaps we were our own worst enemy here, and perhaps if we didn't make them so popular, they would have flown under the radar, but who knows.

Back to classics, and better still, time to move points earning elsewhere and enjoy a wider choice of redemptions now that status is no longer a factor in points burn.

Then again QF canned chauffeur drive to the US, due to 'low' demand.

Just did a brief calculation on that spreadsheet, Close to $300,000k in co-payments, and 35mil points redeemed. Lets just say that each point is worth 2 cents paid from QFF to QF DOM/INT. thats $700,000. If you add the points value and co-pay value together you get a million $, 1mil may not seem like much but to a company like QF who is bleeding cash, any 1mil you can get goes to your bottom line.

I'm sure there are probably a lot more that have been booked and not recorded, or those that were booked by non-AFF people.

Oh well, QF's loss, time will tell whether they made the right decision or not, I think in my opinion it will be a bad decision in the long term.

I guess the question for Qantas is will they save the $1m+ for lounge and other status benefits... and how much will it hit the other revenue lines if those customers move their business elsewhere. I've only flown 2 status runs, with all my other MASA's being flights I needed to take anyway. Across all of their lounges that's a possibility though I daresay your spreadsheet isn't comprehensive obviously.

Agreed.... Every MASA I booked was for genuine travel... I have never booked one to be used as a status run...

MASA's clearly made harvesting QFF points worthwhile... now some of the gloss has been lost off the program and I'm undecided if I should keep earning in QF on various partners, or jump ship and start working on points with other programs...

One thing for sure is that it will cost me less money to fly with Qantas, so I guess that's why they will continue to lose money from pax like me...

YMMV

I take it there's no way to book any seat awards that still earn SC?

Sorry if this is a silly question. I haven't had the need to fly QF for a very long time and haven't been keeping up with all the enhancements of the QFF program.

The points+pay any seat seats awards are still available, but generally regarded as poor value by most on here. But the any seat awards at marginal rates that provided such value in the past disappeared at 30th June.

Only Classic redemptions on points so Any Seat is gone.
If you try points plus pay you can end up with a lousy result.
